Nora is having a house warming party. She is celebrating her
divorce. She was loaned money from Hamlet and Clara to buy the house.
The play starts with Willy and Nora talking to each other before the
guests arrive. | |
Nora: I'm just so excited to throw this dinner party tonight! I will
show off my beautiful house to all of my new neighbors!
Willy: Good thing Clara and Hamlet lent you that money for this
home. All you had to do was befriend Clara and go on a few dates
with Hamlet. | |
Nora: Which isn't a problem because he is so handsome. So much more
hands om than Torvald was.
Willy: Yeah, I know. We have really thin walls.
Nora: All that matters is that i love you now. You're the nicest most
handsome man in my life.
** Nora and Willy start to waltz when the doorbell rings. **
Nora: Oh yay! My guests have arrived! Now go answer the door sweetie.
** Winston and Nora come in and Willy sets their coats down Willie
serves them both wine as they awkwardly admire the house. Nora sits **
Nora: Oh my God, Clara! I'm so happy you've arrived! You look so
lovely! Not as lovely as me of course, but very lovely. And
Winston! This is Winston, right? You also look lovely. Welcome to
my new home. | |
Clara: Oh yes, you do have a beautiful home. Thank you for inviting
us. (to be said at dinner)
** The doorbell rings and Nora gets up to answer the door. **
Winston: (under his breath) I bet she can turn off her TV.
Clara: I'm sure she's not going to have a telescreen. Don't be
paranoid. | |
Winston: (rolling eyes) *sigh*
** Enter living room ** | |
Nora: What happened to Esteban? Didn't hey have a lot of money?
Clara: Yes, but Nora, money is not everything.
Nora: Ha-ha, if that's what you think.
** Scene switch to outside
Hamlet: (standing at the door)
To go or not to go? That is the question--
Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer
the irrelevant chatter and bickering of this gathering
or to simply make my way back home. ... Home--
'tis more of a cage than a home for in this so-called home. I am trapped--
bound by my thoughts and shackled with misfortune.
I know not of my father's killer but his death pains me with every breath. But--
Attending this gathering will require me to act different, act unlike myself
but as a man that is happy. Happy... and along with being happy
there are going to be smiles. Oh how painful that smile shall be
for the reasons of my many smiles have diminished.
** Hamlet rings doorbell, Nora answers **
Nora: Oh, Hamlet! You look to handsome. I'm so happy you made
it. Especially after your father's tragic death!
Hamlet: It's hard to be happy in the wake of my father's death.
Nora: <direct quote> | |
** They walk inside ** | |
Nora: Oh, I'm so happy you are all here tonight! Let me introduce all
of you. | |
* Points to Clara and Winston * This is Clara
(whispering) She thinks she is psychic.
And this is her lover, Winston
** Hamlet initiates handshake with Winston **
Hamlet: I'm Hamlet, the prince of Denmark.
Winston: Hello Hamlet, I'm Winston and I joined an underground cult to
overthrow the government.
** They stare each other down **
Nora: Oh, well, ha-ha, how ironic. I have to introduce you all to my
new lover. | |
Hamlet: A new lover? | |
Nora: Yes. This is Willy, he will be serving us this evening.
Willy: Hi, it's a pleasure to meet you all.
** Doorbell ** | |
Maursault: I would've been here on time but my mom died when I was
leaving. | |
Nora/Clara: Oh my god, I'm so sorry (etc.) Why did you still come?
Maursault: I called 911, they came and got her. It only took 5
minutes. | |
Willy: Oh is that what all that noise was. I thought it was Clara going
through another spiritual episode.
Clara: Oh, how awful. It'll be alright. I can feel her presence, I can
talk to her if you like. | |
** Clara randomly grabs things off the table **
** Winston grabs her hand **
Winston: Sit down, Clara.
Nora: Oh lovely, everyone's here. This calls for campaign
** Everyone claps, Willy goes to get champing **
Clara: So, how's willy working out for you?
Nora: Well, he doesn't beat me too much.
Clara: Are you sure you're OK with him beating you?
Nora: "I've never felt more clear-headed and sure in my life."
(pg1755) | |
** Willy enters ** | |
Willy: Dinner is served.
** Everyone sits ** | |
** Clara and Nora have small-talk **
Willy: "And make promise I won't beat her no more." (pg65-66) |
