1. Do Experienced Programmers Use Google Frequently? by Umer Mansoor (10 min)
- Your key take-aways OR how you're going to implement specific points (minimum 2):
- here is what I thought...
- I loved the Albert Einstein quote, "never memorize something you can look up". It certainly doesn't apply to all things, but useful in the sense that it comforts me a bit more to use google...excessively. It mentions that good programmers use google "a lot...one might argue that they use it even more than beginners".
- Also, that if I encounter a problem, there's a VERY strong chance that I'm not the first one to have had the problem. Google will most likely hold the answers (as well as my fellow cohort students/instructors if google isn't helping).
2. 20 Google Search Tips to Use Google More Efficiently by Joseph Hindy (15 min)
- Briefly describe (in your own words) each of the tips below AND provide an example of a search that captures the sentiment of the tip
- Tip 2: Use quotes to search a specific phrase.
- "Into Thin Air" book
- Tip 3: Hyphen to exclude content.
- Cowboys -NFL -Football
- Tip 4: Colon for specific site.
- Dak Prescott :ESPN.com
- Tip 9: Search multiple words at once.
- Whiskey OR Scotch
- Tip 13: Use professional language.
- "My hair is too long, where can I get it cut?" replaced by "Barber near me"
- Tip 14: Use important words.
- "Where can I get my oil changed in my car today" replaced by "Oil change near me"
- Tip 17: Use descriptive words.
- "How to replace my graphics card in my computer" replaced by "GPU installation PC"
