If you think that you understand the scale of the catastrophe in Mariupol from the crimes of Russia, then, I assure you, you don't even imagine.
We, the medics, try to help not only the military, but also the civilians around the clock under enemy air raids and artillery fire. Because there's no more ambulances, and no one helps anyone.
Every bomb, MRL, destruction - it's not "just" the wounded. Arms and legs are torn off, eyes gouged out, torn body parts, entrails falling out... I understand, it hurts to listen, because among the wounded and dead, perhaps, are your family and friends.
But keep listening, because you have to understand the situation, and act. Remind people about Mariupol. Shout about it. For we do not want to be heroes and martyrs posthumously.
People (of Mariupol) have defended their right to be Ukrainians since 2014. Do not make films about this and write books. Don't say you didn't know or couldn't help. You knew and you could.
Usually all we can do is certify death and persuade loved ones to move away from the bodies for shelter. Because it's impossible to bury the bodies. It's also impossible to get people from under the rubble, with fractured bones, who are slowly dying - adults and children.
This is all the truth, which people who post joyful pictures about an imminent victory hardly want to hear. Yes, Ukraine will definitely win, but tens and hundreds of thousands will die. Because official statistics are too optimistic – they lack zeros. Unblock Mariupol and give us the opportunity to bring medicines, evacuate the wounded and bury the dead humanely.
The city that fought for the whole country for eight years, and is fighting now - we are not martyrs, we are fighters. But now we need help. Mariupol is Ukraine.
