Difficulty Ranking of Hexcells Levels on r/hexcellslevels

Since 2014, r/hexcellslevels accumulates fan-made puzzles for the Hexcells game by Matthew Brown. Here is an inventory of these puzzles.

The first table ranks the puzzles by difficulty.

The second table lists all the puzzles, ordered by popularity.

Classification

Each puzzle is given one of the following classifications:

• <digits> or <digits>g<digits> or g<digits> (solvable, see Difficulty below)
• Spe (special puzzle that requires additional rules or guessing)
• T (solver timeout)
• Err (error, solver could not read the puzzle)

Difficulty

For example, in 3g5:

• 3 indicates the level of complexity associated with the most challenging step of the puzzle. (i.e., it is the number of digits that must be considered together at that step)
• g indicates the utilization of the global constraint as a requirement to solve the puzzle (i.e., need to use the number of remaining blues that is shown at the top-right corner of the screen)
• 5 indicates the level of complexity associated with the most challenging step of the puzzle that involves the global constraint
