A comprehensive Document on Social Media Bans and the Pros/Cons of it

Social Media Ban (Pros & Cons)

Let us Imagine a Hypothetical Scenario where, a College "Good Students and No Ragging Institute (GSNR)" council members decides to impose a ban on all major Social Media Platforms like: TextBook, Bitter, GuruGram, and ChutkiChat and etc, so this Document will discuss the aftermath of the Situation.

PROS

  1. Student depression rates will go down. As per a article on the Internet, Social Media Causes loneliness and clinical Depression, which can be found in the Journal of Social and Clinical Psychology in 2018, stating that the study found the less people used Social Media, the less Depressed and lonely they felt.

  2. Cyberbullying will go Down As our elders say, "A crowd has no Head and no mind, and can be easily angred!". We will come to this later, so People Do face Bullying on Internet, sometimes Intentional,Directed or Unintentional or Undirected. Example: When a Person uploads a Cover of oa Famous song on the Internet, The algorithm prefers the video to go viral since the topic/niche It has chosen is Popular, in this case the song is the niche. But Random people comeby and several dislike and post negative comments. This can be Undirected, but is definately Intentional. Now, let us Imagine a popular Internet Celeb, who are reffered are "roasters" get one of these videos, they might have said bad words for entertaining purposes but, the Audience the Celeb Drives is now determined to make fun of the Orignal Creator and thus this may be Unintentional, but is Directed Which reminds me of the Line that I said Earlier, in the first line of this paragraph.

  3. Security Risk/Privacy will go down This is a fairly techy problem, so diffrent people will rwact differently. Many People post Tons of photoes and videos on the Internet. This brings several plot holes, that can be Exploited to Compromise the security and the Privacy of a Platform or a User.

    • Using Exif data, a Person's Timeline can be created to track the movement of a User and using Statistical Probability to Predict where the User will go
    • Also again using exif data, A person's Personal Info like what phone, what phone number is the User using
    • And Other Significant details about the user, etc

Passwords are Fairly common to Crack these days, and we all know All of us Reuse the Passwords, Now in a Hypothetical Scenario, A Company Called Beta got hacked and the User data get compromised. Now every user, who reused the Password gets hacked Since, They used the same passwords for BMail and Utopia Bank Account as well as ElicLocker.

  4. Social Media Inversly Proportional to Productivity Social Media addiction causes Decreased Productivity. We blame Games for a Kid's Bad Grades, but not Social Media Always. Apps like GuruGram and TextBook already know how to make a Person addicted to their Platforms. - GuruGram and TextBook have Infinite Scroll with Auto Reload Unlike Bitter - The app's full potential can be only unlocked in a Cell Phone. - Search Button and DM icons are in Inconvient Places - The First post is the best post the Algorithm can Find to hook you. - Usage of these apps on a Big screen like Computer and Tablet is Restricted and gives Bad Experience. - Its Easier to Scroll and Use these apps on a Cell Phone

CONS

  1. Creativity gets Suppressed Many Ideas gets Suppressed if Censorship Gets Imposed on Social Media. Let us Take an Example of North Korea. People in North are Not Up to Date and since they have no Internet Access Not so Creative Ideas come out, whereas in China where a Partial Yet Major Ban had been Imposed, Citizens are Misinformed and the Ideas that Come out are usually duplicate or are Useless. Many People Like to Use GitHub to get Inspiration for their Next Coding Project and Many Use SoundCloud for Inspiration for their Next Album

  2. Out Dated Public A Major Censorship on this Major Platforms will cause the Public to Get Information not in Time. Sometimes Immidiate Information is Required to make sure that the Public is Safe and Sound of the Society and the Goverment can Execute its plans at the earliest and Finish them quickly

  3. Harder Collaboration and more Miscommunication Let us Imagine a Hypothetical Scenario where a Project has been to Assigned to a Group, but they far apart from each other. In this Case the Best Bet for their needs will be something like Discord and Slack for Communication. Now Since the Social media is banned, they need to Use a Unreliable network of Proxy Calls and Non-HD phone calls that will definately lead to Miscommunication.

  4. Harder "Genuine" Data Collection Many Students, while they are in College make Prototypes and they want to know if the People will like it or Not or is it useful. They Take Help of Social media to Publicly Share the Prototype and see the Response. They Look into the Prototype and then make some changes and then Release it in the Wild.

This is How boAt and N0THING got its Current Loyal User-Base. Since, In this Hypothetical Scenario the Social Media Platforms are Banned, This is Definately Not Possible and many Ideas and Prototypes that could have Blew the Market, will remain supressed and this would have Not Happened.

Conclusion

Full Censorship never had been the Solution to Problems.

What we Need here is Partial Censorship aka Moderation.

We can Take Example from Discord. Discord has Something Called Servers/Guild, which are just like WhatsApp Group Chats, and Allows Computer Aided Bots for Moderation and ease of use. Every Server/Guild has its own set of Rules and ways to enforce them, which is really great way to avoid a lot of Problems.
