Thanks for this, I recently tried out your one-liner on my personal xmpp server, works very well. I been looking for a solution for this for a while, because when you go onto a guest wifi (like at a hospital, school etc), they typically block ports other than the main ones.
socat -d -d -lf /var/log/xmpp-443 TCP4-LISTEN:443,fork,bind=178.62.58.156 TCP4:127.0.0.1:5222
So to check my understanding, you are putting that one liner, in a file called "xmpp-forward", in the /bin directory, and then calling it with this script, which you are putting in the init.d/ directory?
