How to setup a Oracle 12c database on DigitalOcean

Step 0:

Start downloading the install files from Oracle

Step 1:

Create a blank CentOs 6.5 instance

Convert to Oracle Linux: (source)

curl -O https://linux.oracle.com/switch/centos2ol.sh
sh centos2ol.sh
yum upgrade

Step 2:

Install database preinstall package:

yum install oracle-rdbms-server-12cR1-preinstall

Copy install files from your machine to the server

scp linuxamd64_12c_database_1of2.zip <user>@<ip/hostname of your instance>:~/
scp linuxamd64_12c_database_2of2.zip <user>@<ip/hostname of your instance>:~/

Unzip install files on your server

unzip linuxamd64_12c_database_1of2.zip
unzip linuxamd64_12c_database_2of2.zip

Create the following directory

mkdir -p /u01/app
chown oracle:dba /u01/app

Step 3

Change to user oracle go

su oracle

Put the added db_install.srp file in your home folder

cd to the database directory, where you unzipped the install files

cd database

run the installer

./runInstaller -silent -showProgress -responseFile ~/db_install.rsp

Create a database

dbca -createDatabase -gdbName raildb01 -sid RAILDB01 -sysPassword picasso -systemPassword picasso -silent -templateName General_Purpose.dbc -characterSet AL32UTF8 -memoryPercentage 50
