[12:44pm] PirosB3: just to let you know iglesiasg this issue has not appeared to me any more
[12:44pm] PirosB3: but still, I should not take the issue out
[12:44pm] PirosB3: till someone else tries it
[12:44pm] PirosB3: I have an open pull request https://github.com/shogun-toolbox/shogun/pull/1954
[12:44pm] iglesiasg: PirosB3, I am going to try and reproduce it
[12:44pm] PirosB3: oh great! that would be amazing
[12:44pm] PirosB3: iglesiasg: you have to pull down my branch
[12:45pm] PirosB3: all instructions are on the PR
[12:45pm] iglesiasg: PirosB3, yeah sure, already did that
[12:45pm] PirosB3: please try to reproduce
[12:45pm] PirosB3: and update the ticket.
[12:45pm] iglesiasg: PirosB3, but I was using a sparse data set I believe so it didn't really work out
[12:45pm] PirosB3: because iglesiasg I am using virtualized OS, so I just want to make sure it's not my issue
[12:46pm] PirosB3: I am using SparseRealFeatures

[7:31pm] fs_: is it intentional that without eigen3 shogun doesn't compile anymore? at least on my OS X. shogun 3.2.0 compiled fine without it. I just installed eigen3 which resolved the compilation error for a current git clone.

[11:02am] Rho: what is the initial contribution that i can do to work in this project "Dictionary Learning" in GSoC 2014
[11:03am] wiking: PirosB3: mmm i'll try to answer them asap... but you must bare in mind that we all do this for free, i.e. we do have job that we have to do.... so be patient about reviews/answers, we all try our best but again our resources are not dedicated at this very moment to shogun
[11:03am] wiking: Rho: any
[11:03am] wiking: Rho: https://github.com/shogun-toolbox/shogun/issues?labels=entrance&page=1&state=open
[11:03am] wiking: here's like 94 tasks
[11:03am] wiking: choose any of them and try to solve it
[11:04am] wiking: it does not matter that it's not connected with your desired task
[11:04am] Rho: thanks
[11:04am] wiking: we just want you to get familiar with shogun's codebase and the developing cycle
[11:04am] Rho: that sounds great thanks so much
[11:09am] PirosB3: wiking: I perfectly understand this, as my idea is not really part of the ideas list, it is my responsibility to make sure mentors agree with it and it is in line with everyone's general expectations. For this reason I am trying to get everyone to review my proposal. Anyways I'm skyping with Mark soon, and we will come back with a roadmap and deliverables
[11:12am] wiking: PirosB3: i cannot stress it enough
[11:12am] wiking: that my opinion is that you should try to solve more entrance issues
[11:13am] wiking: as it's all good that you have something sketched up with Mark
[11:14am] wiking: but Mark can be only an external mentor in this story and you really should first convince shogun developer team that you do have the right skills for this task. as in fact shogun developer team will decide whether this project will go or not...
[11:15am] wiking: and the only way to do this, i.e. convince the developer team is actually solve more entrance issues
[11:15am] wiking: i dont know if i made my self clear here
[11:18am] PirosB3: clear enough. I should focus more on entrance tasks
[11:19am] wiking: indeed
[11:19am] wiking: you should have ...
[11:19am] wiking: and you should
[11:20am] wiking: although i really like the whole way of how this task has been built up from the beginning
[11:20am] wiking: and it's great that we get an external mentor for this task and he is very entusiastic about the project as well
[11:20am] wiking: but still, we need to be able to see your skills
[11:20am] wiking: and the only way we can evaluate that is via entrance tasks

[12:42pm] dhruv13: lisitsyn: the train_machine(data) function sets the data and query set as the same (ie. lhs = rhs), why is that?
[12:42pm] dhruv13: lisitsyn: shouldn't the user be free to choose the query set?
[12:43pm] lisitsyn: dhruv13: it is perfect ok to do that once you need to really do anything with the query set
[12:43pm] lisitsyn: but as training would need distances between training set and training set
[12:43pm] lisitsyn: lhs gets equal to rhs

[12:44pm] lisitsyn: not really about convenience
[12:44pm] lisitsyn: we'd have to have lhs==rhs when we train
[12:44pm] dhruv13: lisitsyn: but there is no (apparent) way to change the query set, since the distance member is protected
[12:45pm] lisitsyn: you can get distance with getter though
[12:46pm] lisitsyn: dhruv13: when you do apply
[12:46pm] lisitsyn: it changes rhs
[12:46pm] lisitsyn: to the query set
[12:47pm] dhruv13: lisitsyn: oh, sorry for the confusion!
[12:47pm] lisitsyn: dhruv13: no problem
[12:47pm] lisitsyn: I remember I had 'what the heck' thoughts on that before
[12:47pm] lisitsyn:
[12:47pm] dhruv13: lisitsyn: totally missed that part!!
[12:48pm] dhruv13: lisitsyn: ha ha
[12:48pm] dhruv13: lisitsyn: a lot of the code makes sense now, especially the ASSERT(m_k<=num_labels)
[12:49pm] dhruv13: lisitsyn: whew!
[12:49pm] lisitsyn: heh
[12:54pm] dhruv13: lisitsyn: wait, line 167 here :https://github.com/shogun-toolbox/shogun/blob/develop/src/shogun/multiclass/KNN.cpp
[12:55pm] dhruv13: lisitsyn: still doesn't make sense, shouldn't it be rhs?
[12:55pm] lisitsyn: dhruv13: that's correct as you find neighbors among the training set
[12:56pm] dhruv13: lisitsyn: right! sorry again, i'm just panicked because i'm getting weird errors...
[12:57pm] lisitsyn: heh
[12:57pm] lisitsyn: no worries
[1:05pm] dhruv13: lisitsyn: last clarification, line 340, m_k should be <= distance->get_num_vec_lhs()
[1:05pm] lisitsyn: but that's the same assert
[1:06pm] dhruv13: it is right now <= num_rhs
[1:06pm] lisitsyn: ahh
[1:07pm] lisitsyn: looks like a bug
[1:07pm] dhruv13: lisitsyn: yeah
[1:07pm] dhruv13: lisitsyn: that was causing problems
[1:07pm] dhruv13: lisitsyn: thanks a lot!
[1:07pm] lisitsyn: you're welcome
