##ClemsonCompSci Rules and Regulations

##ClemsonCompSci is a channel on the freenode network made for and by undergraduate computer science students at Clemson University. Its purpose is to both develop the student computing community and provide an easily accessible place to ask for help with assignments. In order to uphold this definition, our channel operators (identified by a @ sign prefixing their name) will strictly enforce the rules listed below. This list is not complete and is subject to change.

The channel is currently operating on a mute system. When you connect to ##ClemsonCompSci, you will be manually granted a voice flag (+v) by an operator or privileged user. Acting out will result in the removal of that voice and, therefore, the loss of your ability to communicate within the channel. New to IRC? Click here.

Violation of any one of these rules will result in (unless stated otherwise) a warning, either expressed verbally or through a kick from the channel. Repeat offenses will result in an automatic kick upon joining (either temporary or permanent), a ban (either temporary or permanent), or in extreme cases, referral to an appropriate Clemson University authority.

Comments and concerns regarding these rules should be shared via the Gist comment system here. Please direct ban appeals or other issues to one of the ##ClemsonCompSci channel operators: zclouds and Angerson.

  1. Channel members must adhere to the Academic Integrity policies set down by Clemson University. When assisting classmates, do not share any code for a particular assignment. Giving logic hints and having discussions on the problem is fine, but straight-up sharing your answer will almost always constitute a permanent ban from the channel.
  2. Absolutely no links to websites containing shock, gore, or sexual images.
  3. Absolutely no links to websites containing pirated ("warez") or illegal material.
  4. Absolutely no potentially malicious code snippets or terminal commands. Any user whose suggestion ends up causing permanent damage to another's system will be reported to the university.
  5. Do not troll. Our operators know it when they see it, and may immediately enact whatever pushishment they deem appropriate.
  6. Do not purposefully mislead someone who is asking for help.
  7. Please keep vulgar language to a minimum.
  8. Insults directed at other students, within or without the channel, will not be tolerated.
