Free Code Camp Forum Wiki Ideas

System Account for Wiki Owrnership

  • Have the account take onwership of all present and future wiki articles.
  • Automatically seet to watching on the topic, takin ownership does not currently set the new owner to get notifications.
  • This will allow us to have an official presence on the wiki.
  • The account should be used solely for the purpose of taking ownership of wiki articles, no replying of any kind, this is so we can easily get a dump of all wiki articles without having to go through the database.

Wiki Moderation

Moderation will be done on a as needed basis, meaning when wiki post are flagged or reported. It would be great if we could somehow forward the notifications so the "wiki mods" can see them without having to log into the wiki account. Otherwise we will check weekly depending ont he volume of wiki edits for moderation.

Wishes and observations

  • I think it would be great to have a way to view all wiki post, if we go the account route this could be done with: http://forum.freecodecamp.com/users/camperbot/activity/topics but I think camperbot should not be used but a new account, maybe wikibot or FCCWiki or whatever name we think is best.
  • I also think besides being able to get a list of all wiki articles, we need a way to get them should we decide to migrate in the near or far future without much hassles, I prefer to have files like the github wiki so having the account solely for that should take care of it as they have an option to download all post which is the reason why I emphasize on the account only taking ownership and not posting replies.
  • We should check if taking ownership would count as "posted by user" to ensure downloading all post will work as we expect it to work.
  • Ideally, we would have a wikimod group that will be able to get notifications when wiki articles are edited or created so we can moderate as fast as possible. While the nature of the wiki makes us no liable for any harm done by the user for a wiki post, as a user I know that almost no one reads the code of conduct or anything that they need to agree to that is longer than a short paragraph, and should something bad happens they will blame Free Code Camp, so even if we can't get sued, we coudl still get negative publicity via social media and word of mouth. This is a risk we have to take with an open wiki and users should be made aware of this but overall, I feel we should have a way to combat this instead of just rely on the campers to do the right thing always.
  • From past experience with the wiki, most articles need multiple edits so with a system more dependent on the user than the admin, campers should expect article's quality to slowly go from poor to good possible over a long period of time depending on the success of the migration and adoption of it by the campers.

Alright, one thing noticed is that https://github.com/FreeCodeCamp/FreeCodeCamp/wiki/LocalGroups-List wont fit on a forum post. I think separating it by Country would be a good idea.
