What is going on

I have decided, along with a few other staff members, to step down from Snoonet staff. The reasons are laid out below.

Why am I leaving?

Its honestly pretty simple. I have a problem with how the network is run today, and their names are irc.com and prawnsalad.

Over the past year, prawnsalad, in the name of irc.com, has attempted to erode control away from Snoonet.

On Oct 29, prawnsalad announced changes that put him, and the rest of irc.com in direct control. This includes all Snoonet userdata. Furthermore, it removes control from staff, requiring us to go though irc.com for anything other than the most basic of staff related duties.

This letter also describes prawnsalad's opinion of good security practices. As seen before in this PR (click the first "resolved" under my name).

To put it simply:

• prawnsalad has seized control of the network
• As part of this control seizure, access to userdata, IRCd configuration, and other critical systems have been put at the sole discretion of prawnsalad, and other non-Snoonet-staff people.
• prawnsalad has in the past, and even in the above linked letter, shown an opinion regarding network security that is frankly not good enough.
• prawnsalad, in that letter, has shown his intent to use Snoonet users to further his own financial gains, along with that of irc.com.

In my opinion, this is unacceptable, and irredeemable. Especially prawnsalad's attitude to security where user accounts are involved.

What happens next?

• I will be stepping down as Snoonet staff as of the release of this message.
• The game servers I operate in #snoonet-games will be moved to a private server where I will continue to operate them for users.
• I will continue to run any IRC channels on Snoonet I operate, though I will be more geared to solving any security issues locally to those channels.
