From: Aspen (linuxdaemon) <linuxdaemonirc@gmail.com>
To: Snoonet Staff <staff@snoonet.org>
Subject: Resignation
To begin, I will continue to maintain gonzobot/CloudBot and my other projects under
https://github.com/TotallyNotRobots/. I will also be active in the larger IRC community, and I hope to remain active as a Snoonet user.
The changes announced by Darren (prawnsalad) on Saturday, October 19, 2019 contained particularly troubling points, namely pushing for policies that would:
* irrevocably compromise the security of Snoonet and its users, in particular the push to quickly implement bug patches or features without proper regard to potential or known security issues in the hopes no one intent on attack will notice before they are addressed,
* ultimately put the IRC.com team in full control of Snoonet, leaving Snoonet staff without much/any recourse for maintaining Snoonet infrastructure and protecting the interests, privacy, and security of the Snoonet user base, and
* further the financial goals of IRC.com with continued and increased disregard for Snoonet staff and the privacy and security of all who use Snoonet.
In my opinion, Darren’s unilateral control over the Snoonet infrastructure, software, and user base will leave Snoonet vulnerable and insecure over time. I cannot, in good conscience, continue to contribute as staff.
While I appreciate and largely enjoyed the time I spent as a part of the Snoonet team, I am submitting this as my official resignation from Snoonet.
To the Snoonet team:
I apologize for the abruptness with which I submit this resignation. I hope to work with you all to make this transition as painless as possible, cleanly removing access permissions, shutting down or migrating various internal projects, etc. However, this does mean that gonzobot will no longer be an official Snoonet bot. The project was transferred directly from bloodygonzo to me as a personal project and has remained as such. I will continue to run gonzobot on my personal hardware and maintain the project on my personal GitHub organization.
With regard to Snoonet-related projects, privileges, and access: All transfer of access, migration of projects, and removal of privileges shall be completed by Friday, October 25, 2019. On this date, I will close my access to all Snoonet infrastructure and systems regardless of whether I have transferred my access to someone else chosen by remaining Snoonet staff.
Sincerely,
Aspen (linuxdaemon)
