i am leaving the revolt team.

i joined revolt in september 2021 after a discord server decided to make the switch. i was invited to the revolt team that december (god how has it been over 2 and a half years). it's been a mixed ride, but i can't deny that a lot of it has been fun! working on revite, rvmob and the new web app, meeting a LOT of wonderful people, learning a lot about quite a bit and honestly just working towards the vision of a chat platform that respects you have been really nice. i certainly don't regret my time here.

but in recent months, things have changed. a once close team feels increasingly divided and hostile. external contributors have felt excluded or driven away, and there's been a common lack of transparency bout what's going on. i'm glad the CLA was removed and that the Android app is being open sourced, but the fallout from that whole mess still weighs heavily on me and i'm worried the attitudes shown there will resurface.

it's not all revolt - i've also been dealing with some mental issues (OCD can rot in hell 🥰) - but (as some may have noticed) i no longer have confidence in the platform. i do not feel comfortable as part of the team, and i don't feel able to speak up about issues - i fear i'll just be mocked or ignored.

i want to give my thanks, though. to the wonderful people i've met as part of the team - Lea, Tai, Fatal (when you two do appear :trollar:), Vale, y'all are great. to the incredible translators who have been consistently kind and generous with their time. to Sernik and the Walls - y'all have honestly helped me keep going, and i consider you some of my closest friends. to those who have contributed and helped to build a better platform. and, to be fair, to insert - for inviting me in the first place, and for being at least somewhat decent throughout. tom's fine too.

on a more positive note, however, i'm excited for the future. the dream that brought me here is far from dead, and i'm currently working on something new - i hope to be able to share more soon. i'll probably stay on the platform for now, but yeah. look forward to that :3

it's been a hell of a ride but genuinely, thank you for the good parts. ultimately, i'm still hopeful that the dream of an open, user first chat platform will, one day, become a reality - and i will do everything i can to ensure that happens.

much love,

Sophie 💝
