We have written our privacy policy to be understandable for humans (not just lawyers). By using the app, you consent to processing of data concerning you in accordance with this privacy policy.
Moves collects data from your phone to provide an easy way to track how you move in your everyday life. The app generates a unique identifier number for your phone (this is not your phone number or UDID) and records following items:
- Location (based on GPS, Wi-Fi and cell towers)
- Accelerometer samples
- Wi-Fi network IDs
The system starts to collect data once you have installed the app and allowed it to track your location. The data collection continues until you stop tracking from Settings or remove the app from your phone. The data is uploaded from your phone over a secured connection to our servers that analyze the data and identify your activities, routes and places. The results are sent back to your phone over a secured connection so that you can view and interact with them. The results are also stored on our servers. If you label a place or change an activity type, the information is also collected and stored in the database.
If you choose to create an account, you need to provide your email address and password. Email address can be used to identify you and constitute “Personally Identifiable Information” (“PII”). You may also choose to submit certain location information to us – such as by identifying the location of your home or office in the App – which would also constitute PII.
The feedback function (in Settings) includes your unique identifier and technical details to a message that is sent using one of the email accounts configured in your phone. The attached information makes it possible for us to view your data and help you with your problem. Some of the information you send when you contact us through the App, such as your name and email, constitutes PII. You can provide anonymous feedback by using an email account that does not reveal your identity.
We may use aggregated data over several users to improve our algorithms, measure service usage, publish summaries online or offline, and to develop new features such as recognizing popular activity routes, areas and places. We will not display or otherwise disclose information where individual users can be recognized. Furthermore, our developers need to occasionally review raw data and the results for recognized activities/routes/places to improve the system. They will only see the unique identifier number with the data.
We do not disclose an individual user’s data to third parties unless (1) you have given explicit consent to each such disclosure, (2) we are required to comply with a legal obligation or (3) if our business or assets, or parts of them, are acquired by a third party. Third parties will be bound by applicable data protection legislation and/or this privacy policy concerning the disclosed data.
We use third party vendors and hosting partners to provide the necessary hardware, software, networking, storage, and related technology required to provide the service. These may be located at destinations outside the European Economic Area. By submitting your personal data, you agree to this. We use commercially reasonable physical and technical safeguards to secure your data. We encrypt the communication channels using SSL. However, we cannot guarantee the security of your data, which may be compromised by unauthorized entry or use, hardware or software failure, and other factors.
At the moment, you can only access the data by using the app, i.e. you cannot export your data from our system. If you require your data to be deleted, please send us a request using the feedback function (in Settings).
We reserve the right to alter our privacy policy at any time. We will notify you of any alterations with reasonable notice through the service, by email, via our Twitter account or otherwise. If you do not agree to the altered privacy policy, you will not be bound by it if you stop using Moves before the alterations become effective.
