On Saturday afternoon around 3pm before TSL's anniversary party, I got the urge to rewrite "Twas the night before Christmas" with a more StarterLeague tone. Thanks to Karen for recording it. Listen at https://soundcloud.com/rudyonrails/starterleague-twas-the-night
Twas the night of Demo-Day
By Kevin Musiorski aka @RudyOnRails
December 15, 2012
It was the night before Demo-day, when all through 1871,
Not a macbook was booted, no commands were run.
The keynotes were all dropboxed with care,
In hopes that applauding crowds soon would be here.
The students were resting, all snug in their sub leases,
While they thought of last-minute presentation pieces.
And Neal in his hoodie, and Mike eating bacon,
They wished for the best that Ron wouldn’t be hatin’.
Friday the 14th was here, everyone got some sleep,
Except for Team ReHash, they didn’t stop to eat.
One more email went out, by Arvin the master,
Some of you please make your screencasts faster.
Last minute git branches were committed and merged,
Though after some conflicts, some said keep ‘em diverged.
They pushed to the remote origin just fine,
But Heroku’s repo said some method was undefined.
It was five o’clock and everyone met in Excelerate Labs,
Jeff spoke to the starters to relax everyone’s abs.
All adorned their black hoodies, and no one flew,
No nutcase was missing getting a tattoo.
The doors were open, no guests were stumped,
The pizzas had arrived, the kegs were pumped.
Chairs were aligned, mics were green,
Vince had things ready, with even the U-Stream.
Jeff warmed us up with an intro to get things started,
We respectfully silenced for some recently departed.
RealTransparent was the first to perch,
They also tried to tackle ugly apartment search.
MyBallot had a beautiful app to tote,
More voters would be happy to cast their vote.
ThePitch helped job hunters out of their recliners,
How important of an idea, but they had no designers!
SaveDan had their client present, speaking and alive,
A store opened in ‘81, they helped revive.
Next up was Harpuun’s whale named Ishmael,
Future students would help local businesses prevail.
DirtyLaundry did not smell and reminded people of their lint,
So they could go free and visit a paid advertise-ment.
MusicMind got different jammers to jam,
Work on new beats but make sure you have RAM.
Kurotrade came strong with the bromance,
Team stock trading now had a chance.
If reHash made it big they would clean up with rags,
I could now find all of my hash tags.
PlayWithUs focused on gamers that weren’t done,
They made playing boardgames with others more fun.
SurfeIt had a wicked front-end done well,
I no longer had to die in tab hell.
TheShedduler helped an aquariam with such a long line,
Next time I go to see fishies, I’ll have a grand time.
Fund A Future should have been around when I was in Code Academy,
I would have never had to give Mike & Neal a penny.
Mama Li’s app would help asian girls look more pretty,
Beauty products going overseas for about Tree Fiddy.
HashTaggin’ was crushing it, they had 300 users,
They were trying to reduce pictures of losers.
DailyStandUp was done by Neal and the bosses,
They'd get teams to start the day with no losses.
Mountain helped people track their stats,
All types of Tumblr blogs were getting so fat.
VIP Bidding was for clubbers who wanted to jump the line,
They'd have people bid on more than just wine.
ShredSet was for all those who love fresh bread and powder,
They scraped and scraped and will make skiers prouder.
DayTrippr helps you when going really really far,
You would never get lost in your calendar.
Well it was yet another quarter had gone by,
Jeff was probably trying not to cry.
He sprang to the mic, to wrap up the night,
But Hoyer had not spoke, so he jumped down Jeff's throat.
After Brett’s many laughs, Jeff got the mic back saying very right,
"Happy building to all, and to all a good-night!"
