How to Copy a Citation Item in Zotero and Paste to Overleaf

Import from Zotero to Overleaf

  • Highlight a Zotero citation item.
  • Hold down Ctrl + Shift (Windows/Linux) or Cmd + Option (Mac) while dropping to Overleaf.

(Note) On macOS, it may be necessary to allow the Zotero window to come to the front before letting go for the modifier key to take effect.

Export bibtex item

Make sure to have the correct setup: Preference -> Export -> Item Format = Better BibTeX.

If you do not find Better BibTeX, you need to install the add on. Please check the zotero website for the installation.

After this, you can simply drag and drop an item from Zotero to Overleaf and other text editors. Note that at the moment this drag-and-drop function does not support visual studio code.
