Graduating Workshop Series (open to all BSc Students)

Apply UBC’s Data Science for Social Good (DSSG) Research Program
The Data Science for Social Good (DSSG) Research Program at the University of British Columbia is a summer program designed to provide an interdisciplinary data science research experience for undergraduate and graduate UBC students. This program—hosted by the Data Science Institute at UBC—brings together students from diverse backgrounds to work closely with data providers and domain experts on focussed, collaborative projects that have the potential to benefit society. This program is open to full-time UBC students who have successfully completed 75 undergraduate credits, or enrolled in a graduate program at UBC.

Present at the 2019 UBC Multidisciplinary Undergraduate Research Conference (MURC)
MURC is a research conference open to all students pursuing research at the undergraduate level. Work presented at the conference typically includes, but is not limited to, undergraduate theses, directed studies, and other faculty-supervised research projects. To apply to present at MURC visit https://students.ubc.ca/murc. Deadline is January 20th.
SCHOLARSHIPS/FELLOWSHIPS
3M National Student Fellowship Call for Nominations
The 3M National Student Fellowship honours up to ten full-time undergraduate college and undergraduate university students at Canadian institutions who have demonstrated outstanding leadership in their lives and at their college or university. Each winner will receive an award of $5,000 to be spent at the winner’s discretion and will also participate in a 3M National Student Fellowship Program retreat. Further information and eligibility is available on the award website: 3M National Student Fellowship.
The application process for these awards is extensive and requires that the Vice-President, Students office reviews each completed package. Students should submit their completed application by 4:00 pm, Mon. Jan. 7 to Uma Kugavaratharajah at vpsassist@mail.ubc.ca. The Vice-President, Students office will review and respond to the students regarding their submission by Mon. Jan. 21. Approved applications must then be submitted electronically by the student to the 3M National Student Fellowship on or before Thurs. Jan. 31.
VOLUNTEERING
Become a Technovation Mentor
Volunteering as a Technovation mentor is a great way to share your passion for computer science, and gain leadership and teaching experience. We are looking for dependable, responsible, enthusiastic people, preferably with a background in Computer Science, to help mentor teams of 2-5 girls in Grades 8-12 as they participate in the Technovation Challenge. The Technovation Challenge involves teams creating a mobile application that addresses a local problem in the community. The time commitment and schedule will be established by you and your team, but we encourage you to meet with your team weekly either online or in person. All undergraduates will be paired with another mentor (either from industry or a fellow undergraduate) so you can share this responsibility.
