Queer Coded
Are you a CS student who identifies as queer and/or trans? Are you interested in joining a student group that lets you connect with others in the queer community? This is your chance to make your voices heard.
Queer Coded is a newly created, student-run, social and support group for queer and/or trans people in the CS department. Our goal is to create a safe, engaging environment, and to provide opportunities for personal and professional development.

UBC Undergraduate Experience Survey (UES)
Responses to the UBC UES will help shape the programs, services and initiatives that support UBC students. UBC uses data from this survey to inform decisions on student well-being, career development, learning environment, experiential learning, support for commuter students, and other support services. Deadline to complete the survey is February 15th.
There are over 20 prizes to be won, worth up to $400.

UBC Library: Access Safari Technical Books Free with O’Reilly for Higher Education Platform
UBC Library is pleased to provide access to a new platform for Safari Technical Books (e.g., O’Reilly titles). It is called O’Reilly for Higher Education and includes technology and business content from more than 250 publishers, along with videos, case studies, learning paths and self-assessments. You can access it here. To access it, you need to enter your UBC email address. If you have a problem accessing O’Reilly for Higher Education, please report it in this Help Form. Capture the Flag Team Meeting

A 12-hour, beginner-friendly 90’s-themed hackathon where everything goes.The 90's were a time of extreme advances in communication, information and digital technologies. Perhaps you will start a 1990’s internet company, ride the dot com bubble, shape an infant internet or revolutionize the communication world. Some might create an entertainment product for a 90’s console / computer / arcade machine, based on a pop cultural phenomenon. We just hope you invent something with the 90's in mind, and shape the future in a time of new beginnings.

MindSumo Meteorological Service of Canada Challenge
MindSumo partners with employers to create real company projects that you can complete to get work experience, win prizes, and be hired for jobs and internships. Their current student challenge for computer science students is from the Meteorological Service of Canada. This challenge focuses on increasing fine-scale temperature details from weather model forecasts. Please take a look at the challenge here. The top prize winner will receive $1000 and the next three winners will share $600. The deadline for student submissions is Feb.11, 2019.

Apply to UBC’s Data Science for Social Good (DSSG) Research Program
The Data Science for Social Good (DSSG) Research Program at UBC is a summer program designed to provide an interdisciplinary data science research experience for undergraduate and graduate UBC students. This program—hosted by the Data Science Institute at UBC—brings together students from diverse backgrounds to work closely with data providers and domain experts on focussed, collaborative projects that have the potential to benefit society. This program is open to full-time UBC students who have successfully completed 75 undergraduate credits, or enrolled in a graduate program at UBC.

Sauder/Kabam Games Varsity Challenge
Are you interested in mobile gaming analytics and a chance to win $10,000?
UBC Sauder and Kabam Games invite you to participate in the 2019 Varsity Challenge! Kabam is a world leader of developing entertaining and immersive games for mobile devices.
The challenge is to create a predictive model that estimates the value of users under the Freemium model for one of Kabam’s hit games. The winning team will earn a prize of $10,000!

Attend the 3rd Annual UBC Language Sciences Undergraduate Research Conference
This student-organized and run will be held on February 8th and 9th at UBC, and is free to attend.
The goal of the conference is to create an opportunity for students to explore, through the work of their peers, language and communication research with an interdisciplinary perspective. Any undergraduate student working on language related topics is invited to attend, whether in Linguistics, Psychology, Computer Science, Applied Sciences, English, Language & Literacy Education, or any other field.

CREATE DAV Program started in 2015 and is supported by NSERC’s Collaborative Research and Training Experience Program (CREATE). The all-expenses-paid undergraduate summer school program includes talks by CREATE DAV faculty and industry experts on cutting-edge interdisciplinary research topics on big data science, as well as York and OCAD U lab tours. The program is designed for undergraduate students who are interested in pursuing a career in the big data science and visualization. York CVR-VISTA Vision Science Summer School - June 3 - 7, 2019
The Centre for Vision Research (CVR) at York University in Toronto offers a one-week, all expenses-paid undergraduate summer school on vision science. The program includes talks by CVR faculty on current research topics in vision science, as well as hands-on experience in CVR laboratories. The curriculum reflects the wide range of research areas at CVR, which includes research on human visual perception, computer vision, machine learning, visual neuroscience, 3D film, immersive environments, and disorders of vision. The program is designed for undergraduate students who are interested in pursuing a career in scientific research. We provide on-campus accommodations, some meals, and cover transportation costs.
