End of mod reflection

Mod 4 - Your Unique Narrative [presented to a panel of alumni & outsiders]

1: What is one thing you learned in Mod 4 that you will take with you into the job?

  • Mod 4 has definitely taught me to diversify my skillset. To be ready for what jobs come my way no matter the stack. Because with enough can do attitude we can learn just about any stack with enough practice, now that we have a base understanding of the fundamentals.
  • I have also learned to always be hustling, until that first job comes. After which we should focus on proving our value, for our next big leap.

2: Weaving it all together, how will you be successful in the workplace?

  • Mod1 we were stuck with the old clunky legacy code
    • We embraced the unknown and the scary and really kindled our passion for web development
  • Mod2 we were hit with a firehose of information
    • We fixated and practiced the fundamental frameworks of coding in the modern age. Reenforcing the need of knowing how to write good functioning Javascript
  • Mod3 we dove into libraries and apis
    • This is when we started to realize the power of the tools before us. Knowing that we can access mass amounts of data as well as create our own sources of data. Giving us more possibilites on the Frontend.
  • Mod4 we leaned into the uncomfortability and learned that we are capable of more than we know
    • It's good to differentiate yourself from others, because everyone has their own unique talents that will provide usefull in the workplace. It helps us to realize that not only will our fellow students have differing skills, but even those we will work with in the future who will having varying knowledge and skill

3: What makes you particularly stand out as a candidate?

  • With my past career being closely involved with customers and how they interact with products, I always keep in mind the needs of my client/audience
  • I would like to say that I am a good team coordinator and I really am trying to hone in on my reliability in terms of communication and documentation
  • In the future I would like to transition into a project management role or team lead, where I can help mentor other people. I get a lot of joy out of the team aspect of the workplace, and helping others achieve their best is when I'm happiest

4: What will make a company and role the perfect fit for you?

  • I'm looking to join a frontend team that is hopefully tight knit and really aligns with the motto of succeeding together.
  • I hope to be able to have the opportunity to improve the company in my own way and with some freedoms in trying new things.

5: How will you share your learning from Gear Up with your future company?

  • Having such a serious process to tackle the Gear Up has really helped me to articulate and inspire discussion around a key topic. It could be anything, but if I give compelling points of discussion, we can start of a movement of well rounded conversation amongst the work place and community.
