December JS meeting topics

As last month's mod, guess I'll set up December.

Post topics here that you think should be discussed!

Date: Sometime on the week of the 15th? I assume a good portion of us will be travelling. Method: Probably a dedicated SO room again

Topics:

  • Old business
  • Monthly challeges. Do we like how widely they're spread? Any possible improvements on selecting a challenge? Should we move off Meta?
  • How do we handle arguments?
  • How do we properly escalate action against users who don't follow the rules?
  • Mailing list. Useful?
  • Meta: Moving from gists to issues on the room rules repo.
  • Meta: What are the responsibilities of a meeting mod? How are they chosen? https://gist.github.com/SomeKittens/dfbce879168a1d52d654

Awesome initiative :) Thanks

  • I think the monthly challenges should definitely be discussed now that they're publicized site wide (do we like that? Are we satisfied with the voting?)
  • Handling arguments in the room is another topic I'd like to bring up.

  • How do we deal with users who don't want to follow 'rules' (trolling users, being disruptive, general tomfoolery). Should we have a 'system' for them? what about return offenders? Of course I'm looking for discussion on how escalation goes. Currently we can bin/kick users but is that enough? this touches on Benji's note about arguments.

Is this a room owner's meeting?

Do we actually need the mailing list? It wasn't used at all in the past month.

Updates on the conclusions spawned from the room's previous meeting.

This is an "Anyone who cares" meeting, though that's mostly ROs.

I really appreciate @SomeKittens for this initiative. I would like to be a part of this.
How do I register for this meeting? I wasn't in last month (Nov.)

@rahul-desai3 You just show up, basically. We'll probably create an event in the JavaScript room once we know when exactly it will be

Can we add one subject;
'Pants'.
Don't you hate pants?!?!

I hate pants so much!

Could someone take notes for those of us in less favourable timezones? I realise there is the transcript, but I'd be keen for a TL;DR (maybe via the mailing list)

Phenom, the moderator should keep track of decisions made (and also should add them to rlemon's rules wiki - whoops)

This month's monitor is Zirak! Congrats!

var names = [];[].slice.call(document.querySelectorAll('.author')).forEach(function (elem) { var name = elem.innerText; if (!~names.indexOf(name)) { names.push(name); }});console.log(names[Math.floor(Math.random() * names.length)]);

Earthlings, the meeting shall be at 2014/12/13, 1900 UTC. Register yourselves.
We'll be using the same room.

Everyone who wishes to join is welcome, not limited to room owners. Spread love, not aids.

Meta-issue: These discussions should probably take place under GH issues under the rules repo: https://github.com/rlemon/so-chat-javascript-rules
