Post Graduation Job Search Action Plan (Mod 5 Goals for Employment!)
  1. What motivates you?

The superficial motivation is that I HATE not having the ability to be self-sufficient so the closer I get to running out of money and the more I start to freakout. Another motivator is that I know I am finally following my passion and doing what I've been excited about since I was younger. Being oh-so-close to making my dreams come true, following in my father's footsteps, and doing what I should've done to begin with is so exciting. Finally, failure for me means returning to active addiction, homelessness, and a very depressing, tragic way of existing. Since that is NOT an option, the only other option is to succeed and find a job. This is where I belong!

  1. How will you keep yourself going when faced with rejection in the job search?

I know it's not personal. There are sooo many dev jobs out there and each 'no' is another step closer to my 'yes'. I believe things happen for a reason and if I get rejected from one job, it's because an even better one is waiting for me.

  1. How will you hold yourself accountable to your plans? (Ex: Attend Mod 5, meet with cohortmates, attend Kayt's coffee shop hours, etc.)

Ugh, this one is hard. I feel like with my personal work ethic, this won't be too much of an issue but I do know I need to make it a point to reach out to my cohortmates and be social while on the search. I'd like to see about creating set times where we can meet at Turing, Union Station or a coffee shop to job hunt together.

  1. How do you like to communicate?

I like to be overly communicative. Keep my teammates and coworkers I'm working with informed on what I'm working on, what I'm thinking about doing, etc. I'm very laid back and informal about it. I like slack messages, texts, impromtu quick conversations as needed. Although I hate talking on the phone for the most part.

  1. What is your ideal job?

Being somewhat of a dreamer/idealist/philosopher, I would like to my own morals/values/ethics to align with that of the company I work for. If they make some BS product I don't agree with, I'm going to care much less about writing great software for them. Maybe the product isn't exciting, the the team dynamics and way the team collaborates together is exciting. I like helping people, giving back, finding a way to improve people's lives which is why I've been told to look into CivicTech but honestly until I work in the field I can't say for sure. I would love an international company in which I can travel some for business and work with our teams all across the world. I feel like a larger company that's more established is a better dev environment for me. Startups I think are too small and I don't feel confident enough in my skills yet to be one of the only devs at a small startup where I am overly responsibly for all the technology/applications.

  1. What has been your approach to the job search so far?

I've been focusing on getting all the education out of Turing that I can. I've only applied to a few jobs here and there although I've browsed job boards while commuting back and forth here and there. I've saved jobs I've been interested in for future reference/research/applying. I have been contacting Turing alumni here and there when there is one working at a compnay I'm interested in applying to. I've had a few phone conversations with them with some solid advice but nothing promising as far as specific job leads.

  1. What could you use help with?

Warm/Cold Outreach ugh

  1. Anything else you'd like Kayt to know?

I am not tied to Denver. I can relocate - I just don't know where/how best to look for non-Denver jobs.

  1. If you are not using Huntr, please include a link here to the job tracker you're using so that Kayt can follow along with your progress.
