Project HyperCycle (Working Title) is a rhythm game in which the player can use real MIDI equipment that can map to all required gameplay input. Music may range from modern EDM to old-school hip-hop.
A story mode can be accessed that allows for cutscenes and story elements, like the campaign mode of similar rhythm games.
Skins of the UI can be applied to reflect the player's personal taste, matching with genre of music heard in-game.
Players can use real MIDI DJ equipment, such as the Numark DJ2Go2 for example, as long as the MIDI device has one or two turntables, two to four beat pads in a line (two on each side if four preferred), and an optional crossfader.
Different note types are present, such as:
- Tap notes that use a corresponding deck
- Scratch notes that use direction and duration
- Crossfade notes that use "slams" and "slides", requiring immediate and gradual fading respectively
Players can choose between one and two decks, an optional crossfader allowing extra difficulty by requiring switching between the playing tracks.
Players can choose stems within the song library to mix and record custom tracks, allowing custom songs and custom charting to be done within the game itself.
This game is intended for DJ veterans to relive past sets and experience or for beginners trying to get into the DJ scene, as well as typical rhythm game players looking for a new challenge.
This game is intended to be played on PC, but options to expand to mobile and VR are open as planning continues in the early stage of the project.
