Personal README on how to work with me

Version 1.3.3 updated April 26th, 2024

How to Utilize this Document

This is meant as a short guide to get to know me and how to best work with me. This includes information about my personal life as well as knowledge on how to best interact with me in a workplace environment.

Background

  • I grew up in Eden, NY a small town south of Buffalo, home to the Eden Corn Festival and the only metal kazoo factory in North America
  • I went to college at the Rochester Institute of Technology for the broad field of Computer Science.
  • I consider myself a Thinking Introvert, but if you get me going on a topic I'm passionate about you'll have a hard time stopping me
  • I am perpetually caffeinated, don't worry it's totally not a problem
  • My list of hobbies is always changing, but some that have stuck with me longer than most are woodworking, Reddit, and some recent additions
    • Recent additions to the list of hobbies are: personal finanace, personal culinary advancements and home renovations

Work/Life Balance

Historically, I have had, what some consider, a very poor work/life balance. In that I don't have a defined schedule for when I work. I'll always be working at the core operation hours (9-4), but outside of that window I'll likely put in some hours early in the morning.

Communication

Please do not hesitate contacting me, if I look really busy, I'm probably not actually that busy and would be more than happy to help. Feel free to message me on Slack if it's during normal business hours. Otherwise, contact me based on the following:

HIGH URGENCY: Text (preferably) or call at 716-860-8126. If you call I won't answer unless I know the number, if you leave a voicemail I'll get back to you promptly.
Medium Urgency: Slack
Low Urgency: Email

Code Styles

  • I can be nit-picky sometimes when it comes to coding conventions and/or general coding styles
    • Consistency and readability are king
  • I like to be corrected on mistakes I make and told why they were mistakes. I learn significiantly more from the why rather than the specific correction
    • I learn the most from making mistakes and I strive to never make the same mistake twice
  • Self-documenting code

Things I Live By

  • Mistakes are one of the great sources of knowledge
  • If this is the 3rd time you've done this, write a script instead
  • Organization and structure

Incompatibilities

  • Racism, sexism, any form of hatred
  • People holding back (I like strightforewardness)
