Tottenham sees Edwards as the best option

Mário Figueiredo

Tottenham is considering moving forward with the signing of Marcus Edwards in order to meet the mandatory quota of having eight homegrown players in the squad, Correio da Manhã has learned.

The English club, which still holds 35 percent of the winger's rights, has been closely following the progress of one of the most promising players from their academy: Marcus Edwards.

The Sporting winger is an option with multiple benefits for the English side. With undeniable quality, Tottenham can reacquire a world-class player for around 20 million euros, due to their 35 percent stake. Moreover, the arrival of the winger is crucial for the club to comply with the 'Homegrown player' rule. The Premier League requires clubs to have a squad of only 25 players, eight of whom must be homegrown (having spent at least three seasons at the club before turning 21). This is where Spurs' interest in Edwards gains momentum. The player's desire to return home also influences the decision.
