I'm just commenting on the "Plain Chords" for now, lets see about the inversion and substitutions later on :
There is a habit of letting a resolving chord ring for 2 bars before moving to the next one. A to Em7 sounds like a jump and not a progression ... maybe try that to make it less hard on the ear. Or try to put have the A as a 2 in a 2-5 and go to Dsomething ?
