Error from Server [Closing link: (~TinoDidri@tinodidriksen.com) [G-lined: [root] Spam (ID: 23QA0O8XJO)]]
At 11:15 CEST, I started mass-kicking everyone from rinnegan.freenode.net's ##C++ and ##C++-general with the message
"Move to Libera.chat #C++ and #C++-general and friends - notice single #"
13:26 <§§§> Ah, yes, forcefully kicking people out of a channel on a network just because an op suffers from an
opinion that that network is dead. Totally a good guy move.
13:27 <£££> the network is dead though
13:27 <£££> so everything you said is true in a non-ironic way
13:28 <TinoDidriksen> The staff made it clear that the "classic Freenode" servers will be removed.
13:30 <¤¤¤> irc.freenode.org already links to the new servers, iirc
13:31 <TinoDidriksen> Yup. Can't get to the old channels without knowing what exact server to connect to. They're deprecated.
13:32 <§§§> None of that justifies kicking out everyone.
13:32 <TinoDidriksen> They wiped ALL channel and nick registrations. We're just supposed to let them?
13:33 <§§§> Imagine thinking that the side who kicks out entire channels is the good side.
13:34 <TinoDidriksen> §§§, you can connect to chat.freenode.net and probably become owner of the C++ channels there.
None of us have any accounts there any longer. Freenode switched ircd and didn't port the databases.
13:35 <§§§> TinoDidriksen: Yes, I understand that much. But I also understand that those channels were full of
consenting adults capable of making their own decisions, so no need for you to make decisions for them.
13:36 <TinoDidriksen> I felt it necessary to wake people up while we had that opportunity. We'll lose it shortly.
13:37 <§§§> Well at least stop blaming the current FreeNode staff for burning it down. It's you who burned it down.
13:38 <TinoDidriksen> I took action on a deprecated server. Freenode themselves said the server will be shut down.
Anyone who disagrees can trivially reconnect to the "new" Freenode where none of us evil ops have any sway.
13:38 <TinoDidriksen> That server wasn't part of Freenode any longer.
13:41 <TinoDidriksen> I absolutely burned down the C++ channels on the delinked server, because I saw it as a last
resort to get people's attention before the server is shut down. Very technically, I did not burn anything down on
Freenode, because that server wasn't part of Freenode.
13:41 <£££> don't think there's any value in arguing technicalities
13:42 <TinoDidriksen> I think it's important to get it through that Freenode themselves would've done this if I hadn't,
but without any message about where to go.
13:58 <TinoDidriksen> We really tried to play nice with the new Freenode. We didn't openly advertise for Libera. We
tried to run things in parallel. And would have continued to do so as long as Freenode respected our efforts. But then
they pull the rug out from everyone with no warning? Just take away all communities' channels and nicks? And I'm
supposed to let that happen without trying to get people to move to a competent network? No.
14:15 <TinoDidriksen> In the weekend and yesterday when Freenode staff messed with ##C++-general's banlist, topic, and
chanserv, I was very close to issuing the burn command. But it was still Freenode, and we still had control, even if the
staff explicitly threatened it. And then they pull this stunt...and all bets were off.
