Bad stuff is bad, right?

Plagiarism is bad. Useless edits are bad. Robo-reviewing is bad. Skip is always a valid option if you're not sure.

We know all of this, right?

Apparently not, because suggested edits to tag wikis and their excerpts containing plagiarized content, or just improper content are being approved regularly.

So what is the problem?

There's actually more than one:

  • Suggested tag wiki and excerpt edits are lumped into the suggested post edits queue, where they are shown to reviewers who may know nothing about what is expected of suggested edits to tag wikis and their excerpts, or what is expected of them when reviewing these edits (despite the abundance of guidance available when reviewing them).
  • Anyone can suggest a tag wiki or excerpt edit. I'll say this again: we allow users who don't actively contribute to the site, and haven't proven that they know anything about the site or what is expected of them to suggest edits to the wikis and excerpts of our tags.

So what are we going to do about that?

I propose a two-fold solution:

  1. Move the suggested tag wiki and excerpt reviews into their own specialized queue, with lots of information on what is expected of tag wiki and excerpt edits, and what is expected of the reviewer when reviewing these edits.
  2. Raise the reputation bar for users to suggest tag wiki edits, I suggest a minimal 1,000 reputation, but the number here is debatable.

What say you, oh great and knowledgeable people of meta?
