Hi @culvant,
I stopped working entirely in this field so I'm not familiar with the changes in Maya 2018. After a quick Google I think you should be fine to replace from PySide import QtCore, QtGui
with from PySide2.QtCore import QtCore, QtGui
. Although its a different version, I don't think I used anything exotic, so it might just work. Let me know if that works for you.
