1. What is your greatest strength and how do you know?

Answer: I feel my greatest strength is my positive attitude and enthusiasm for new things. I find I am generally excited to embark on new adventures. I know this because I feel positive emotions when confronted with new challenges. I also feel excitement for new projects.

2. How do you work best?

Answer: I am an easily distracted person. I find I work best when when I am isolated from distractions. I am most efficient in an environment with less or no people to talk to. I have found wearing headphones helps eliminate distractions.

Empathy Exercise

1. What role does empathy play in your life and how has it helped you?

Answer: Empathy has enabled me to consider an additional element when making decisions. By allowing myself to understand where someone is coming from emotionally, I feel I can better decide my plan of action. There was one particular situation that comes to mind where a friend was upset about something that happened at work. I had to reconsider my initial reaction, to understand the emotional toll different courses of action may leave.

2. How does empathy help you build better software?

Answer: For software development, I feel empathy is particularly important when developing UI/UX. When using software to help provide an experience/service, it's important to consider how it makes the user feel. One must put themselves into the hypothetical shoes of the user to understand how the software experience feels as a whole. Q: In a few sentences, explain what the project was and the scope of your work. Imagine explaining your answer to a technical recruiter or a developer who you’d potentially be interviewing with who knows nothing about Turing.

What's Cookin' Answer: The goal was to create a web app that uses multiple data sets including users, recipes, and ingredients. Upon load, the app logs in a random user along with their specific information including name and personal pantry items. There is a search function allowing the user to search for recipes including names, ingredients, and tags. The user may select a specific recipe to add to their "My Menu" or "My Favorites" then select the corresponding tab from the nav bar to view the information. If a user selects the "View Recipe" button, the full recipe info is displayed including instructions, ingredients, and tags associated with that recipe.

I am super eager to start my new career in software development! I have always been a creative person and found enjoyment solving problems. I believe today is an exciting time to enter the technology industry. With the birth of autonomous vehicles, smart phones, and the broadband power of 5G, the future is more exciting now than ever!

I seek to marry my love for creative building with my desire to improve life via technology. In the past, I worked for a non-profit company that hosted a free summer camp for kids suffering from childhood cancer. In this position, I was given the daily challenge of designing games and programs for campers with limited accessibility, and teaching children as well as entertaining. I was also tasked to plan fundraising events that supported our organization. The leadership skills I acquired in my previous roles give me a better understanding of how to follow directions and work with a team.
