##Why I Wasn't at TiConf

This note is here and not on my company blog because this is personal not about Clearly Innovative

I have been asked a few times why I wasn't at TiConf NYC 2014; the simple answer is because it was made clear... indirectly that I wasn't welcome if I did not buy a ticket and that people involved with the project were upset that I came to a bar where there was a happy hour last year but did not by a ticket.

Let me very clear, I was extrememly dissappointed to hear that a conference that is supposed to be about the community would have that attitude about a community member. I have contributed considerable amount of my personal time and energy to this community. I was actively blogging and supporting the Appcelerator community early on. I have made aquaintances from all around the world where the only place I could have seen them face-to-face was at the conference, but I did not go.

##Why didn't I go.

I travel extensively for my business so I am not home alot, for the weeks leading up to the event I was involved with volutneer community events and a judge for a hackathon which kept me from home and the weekends following I had similar activites planned. These were events where I was volunteering my personal time to support STEM education for kids and working on promoting a summer camp for kids in underserved communities.

So when I looked at my calendar and saw all that was already planned and the fact it was Mother's Day weekend, it just did not make sense for me to be gone for another weekend. My wife supports me and all of the work I do in regards to starting a company and spending extra hours away from home when we have young kids and home that need someone around, I made a choice to be home with her.

##Suggestion

Have a pre-party or a seperate event next year that has a fee, if money is a concern, and full price ticket that includes the event and the three day conference? The Appcelerator Community is spread across the globe and for most of us CODESTRONG and now TiConf is the only way for people to interact face-to-face I missed that opportunity this year hopefully it will be different next year

I had noticed and thought to myself why the silence around the lack of your presence at the event, now I understand and respect your decision.
Last year I also received an unfriendly response to a question I asked via twitter about something.
