Attention: this is the key used to sign the certificate requests, anyone holding this can sign certificates on your behalf. So keep it in a safe place!

How to setup your own CA with OpenSSL

For educational reasons I've decided to create my own CA. Here is what I learned.

First things first

Lets get some context first.

# Generate a new key
openssl genrsa -out server.key 2048

# Generate a new CSR
openssl req -sha256 -new -key server.key -out server.csr

# Check certificate against CA
openssl verify -verbose -CApath ./CA/ -CAfile ./CA/cacert.pem cert.pem
