My use of Taskwarrior

Getting Started

My Usage

I've been using this for several years now, so here are some of the ways I have set it up to be most productive. See my taskrc below for implementation details.

In general, I've had the most success by keeping lists of tasks short and to the point, avoiding the anxiety of seeing 100 tasks and feeling like I'm going to drown.

Convert any video to WebM and MP4 for HTML5 video
#!/bin/bash
# This script takes any (high resolution) video file as input and converts it to WebM (VP8 & Vorbis) and MP4 (H264 & AAC) for HTML5 <video>. For each format, it creates a high quality (`-hq`) and a low quality (`-lq`) version.
# ffmpeg has to be installed, see http://docs.sublimevideo.net/encode-videos-for-the-web for more instructions.
# Usage: videoToWeb.sh <inputfile>

d3js | Eisenhower matrix

Just two simple questions to prioritise tasks, using Eisenhower’s strategy matrix.

"Using the decision matrix, you will separate your actions based on four possibilities.

  • Urgent and important (tasks you will do immediately)
  • Important, but not urgent (tasks you will schedule to do later)
  • Urgent, but not important (tasks you will delegate to someone else)
  • Neither urgent nor important (tasks that you will eliminate)

The great thing about this matrix is that it can be used for broad productivity plans (“How should I spend my time each week?”) and for smaller, daily plans (“What should I do today?”)"

DevonThink Search operators
DevonThink Search operators
In the toolbar search field, as well as in both the interactive and the simple web interface, you can use standard and extended Boolean operators, parenthesis, and more to fine tune your search.
The syntax of the operators is compatible to DEVONagent and EasyFind, the Finder, Spotlight, common search engines as well as common programming languages such as C, C++, Objective-C, Java, and JavaScript. The complexity of the query is unlimited.
Case
All terms are case-insensitive. You may, if you wish, use capitalization for proper names in a query, but DEVONthink Pro Office will ignore case in interpreting the query.

Setup Mac OS X

I've done the same process every couple years since 2013 (Mountain Lion, Mavericks, High Sierra, Catalina) and I updated the Gist each time I've done it.

I kinda regret for not using something like Boxen (or anything similar) to automate the process, but TBH I only actually needed to these steps once every couple years...
