Offene Standards

Offene Standards bilden die Grundlage, um Metadaten langfristig optimal über verschiedene Anwendungen und Organisationen hinweg nutzen zu können. Schon ab den 1960er Jahren verabredet die Bibliothekswelt mit dem Austauschformat MARC21 gemeinsame domänenspezifische Standards. Mittlerweile basieren aktuelle bibliothekarische Standards wie etwa Bibframe auf dem World Wide Web zugrundeliegenden Web-Standards. Das hbz unterstützt ebenfalls seit langem domänenübergreifende Webstandards für den Aufbau leicht nutzbarer, wartungsarmer und zukunftsfähiger Anwendungen.

Einen offenen Standard entwickeln mehrere Akteure gemeinsam, die den Bedarf des Standard für ihre Anwendungen erkannt haben. Diese gemeinschaftlich umgesetzte Standardisierung ermöglicht, den Standard bestmöglich zu spezifizieren und eine breite Nutzung und Akzeptanz und dadurch Interoperabilität von Anwendungen und Daten zu erreichen.
