<![CDATA[<p><b>ON THIS EPISODE OF HIT PUBLISH</b></p>
<p>As the title suggests, this one is a little off subject, but certainly worth a listen. As well as playing host to the Hit Publish podcast the UK Digital Retail Innovation Centre (aka the UK:DRIC) is a hub for digital innovation, based in the heart of Gloucester. UK:DRIC manager Emily Knight and Jason Smith head of Marketing Gloucester unpacked for us the purpose behind UK:DRIC and shared success stories from companies working with the UK:DRIC.</p>
<p>As well as being an advocate of technology (providing it has a purpose and a benefit) the UK:DRIC is about supporting and promoting the high street. Emily &amp; Jason outline some of the developments being made to help the high street keep up with technological change and also the case was made and evidence provided for Gloucester as a proven path-finding City of tech innovation.</p>
<p>All in all a fascinating episode, if not entirely digital marketing or algorithm obsessed, this one is well worth a listen.</p>

<p>We spoke with Polly Barnfield (OBE) from Maybe* Tech, a new social listening tool that helps brands benchmark and improve their social media performance and uniquely compare results against brand competitors.</p>
<p>We spoke to Polly about the challenges facing the high street retail environment, and how this can be affected by and effective social media use. We looked at the future of the high street and how good and bad brands are using social effectively to engage and drive footfall.</p>
<p>Polly sits on the Future High Street Taskforce, which is handy. ;o)</p>
<p>We discussed the UK wide Digital Index – an index that ranks towns and city’s against each other, and also of those contributing social voices within each town and city that are effecting this, in terms of their reach, output and amplification.</p>
