Freenode Is Changing

In case you missed it, there was a global notice from Freenode staff earlier today:

jess(jess@freenode/staff/jess)- [Global Notice]

Hi all. It feels like my moral responsibility to inform all users that administrative control of freenode and its user data will soon change hands, and I will be resigning from freenode staff effective immediately. It's been an honour to help you all.

I know some of you have been following what's going on, but I'm sure many of you will be caught by surprise. Please, do not worry. freenode/##php will remain available for quite some time. Please also do not spread drama - if you're interested in knowing what's going on I'd encourage you to read jess' letter: https://gist.github.com/jesopo/45a3e9cdbe517dc55e6058eb43b00ed9

YES, freenode/##php is officially moving to libera/#php.

Libera.chat is a new IRC network set up by the former freenode staff. It's meant to be a continuation of the policies and practices that we've known for many years on the old freenode network. In jess' words,

a number of now-former freenode staff and like-minded volunteers have quickly but carefully constructed a new and improved network, staff-owned through a Swedish non-profit, to be run with the same philosophies and moral convictions that we've tirelessly run freenode under for all these years and we'd be more than happy to continue volunteering our time and effort to support you:

irc.libera.chat (6697 tls, 6667 plaintext)

You can also check out https://libera.chat/

If you are concerned about your personal data and decide you want to drop your account, you'll lose access to freenode/##php.

You are welcome to join libera/#php at any time.

We do not plan to close freenode/##php in the foreseeable future, but cannot guarantee its stability. Many of our active users have already migrated to libera/#php so we encourage you to join us there.
