Music Encoding 2015: SMuFL and Stylesheets questions for discussion

SMUFL Questions for Discussion

SMuFL includes specifications for hundreds of glyphs

  • How can we avoid duplicating SMuFL in MEI?

SMuFL is not a font-family, nor a Reserved Unicode Area

  • How can we refer to a SMuFL code in a generic way (i.e., without specifying a font-name implementation)?
  • The Private Use Area is used by other font projects, such as the Medieval Unicode Font Initiative

How can we avoid creating conflicts or ambiguities when using them?

Stylesheets Questions for Discussion

Are stylesheets useful for MEI?

Where is the line in music between “content” and “presentation”?

How can stylesheets be defined and included?

Should stylesheets be defined in a separate schema?

Special Interest Group?

I think the SMuFL-Browser can provide the endpoint for including SMuFL specification in MEI (as well as in TEI). Maybe I should (finally) implement a RDF serialization ?!

I was really interested to review the slides from this presentation, and I would like to invite anybody who has any specific proposals about anything else we could add to SMuFL to help in this area to let me know, preferably via the smufl-discuss mailing list.
