Doris Henson's recipe for molasses cookies

Doris' Christmas Molasses Cookies

makes 3 dozen

History

My mom made these when we were kids, and they were so good. She got the recipe from her mom, Doris, and she could bake! These have always been a good source of comfort and nostalgia for me.

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup Crisco

  • 1 cup Sugar

  • 1/4 cup Molasses

  • 1 Egg

  • 2 tsp baking soda

  • 1/2 tsp cloves

  • 1/2 tsp ginger

  • 1/2 tsp salt

  • 1 tsp cinnamon

  • 2 cups flour

Directions

  • Melt Crisco and cool
  • Add sugar, molasses, and egg and beat well
  • Sift dry ingredients
  • Add to creamed mixtur and mix well
  • Chill dough
  • Make into 1" balls
  • Roll into sugar
  • Press flat with bottom of a glass
  • Bake at 375°F for 8 minutes on a greased cookie sheet

Notes

These taste great with hot coffee / tea or cold milk. They make your house smell like Christmas. 🎄😀
