This recipe will yield around 4 arepas
- 1 1/2 cups of Harina P.A.N (Pre-cooked white corn meal)
- 2 cups of water (I prefer the water to be at a warm temperature)
- 1 teaspoon of salt
- 1 teaspoon of corn oil
- In a bowl, mix water and salt. Until salt is dissolved.
- Slowly start adding the Harina P.A.N while making circular movements. Break down any lumps in the mix. Let the mix rest from 5 to 10mins.
- Pre-heat over medium heat a non-stick griddle or a skillet. Optionally, I like to also preheat my oven at 350°F.
- After the dough has ticken, add the oil and try to get it evenly distributed by taking a couple of minutes to mix everything. The dough should be firm enough so you're able to mold it but not too firm that cracks. If it's too soft, add a bit more Harina P.A.N and if it's too firm, add a bit of water.
