The (Not-So-Good) Code-Along:

  • Students are simultaneously expected to:
    • listen to teacher talk
    • read code
    • copy down code
    • make suggestions
    • (maybe poorly defined expectations????)

Goals:

  • Demonstrate for students a full application build
  • Have students "build" less-trival application

Turn & Talk:

  • Have you lead a lesson... you would identify as a code-along as defined here?
  • Do you have other techniques you use which deliver on the above goals, without a code along?
After you talk, we'll ask for a sharing <3

"Code-Alongs Don't Work"

  • ...said the person who
    • doesn't know
      • you
      • your teaching style
      • your super powers
    • may-just-be-bad-at-code-alongs-himself?
