Quantum Siege (first public beta) notes

Quantum Siege Notes

Glossary
  • (DA) denotes things that could be possible to analyze with data (without user tests).

  • (A/B) denotes things that could need an A/B test to verify

The Good Things

  • Excellent graphics with a good framerate.

  • Interesting setting (pretty crazy steampunk-scifi-fantasy-mash-up?)

  • Interesting hero characters (the lore!)

  • Both PvE and PvP? I like.

  • Interesting gameplay mechanics (MOBA lite + Clash Royal?)

The Problems

  • At first, I had a hard time to differentiate basic units from each other and also from static battlefield constructions!

  • Rotating the battlefield and placing the units to the correct location at the same time is difficult (on purpose?). It’s frustrating when you don’t feel to be in full control of interaction possibilities. (Think about good RTS games how they handle this.) It feels more like an UI limitation than a gameplay limitation. (DA)

    • One solution might be to make units generally slower, so especially newbies would have time to react.

  • Using especially turrets is difficult: it’s not enough to put them in the right location but you also have to aim, and quick aiming is difficult. (DA)

  • There’s a portion of units I didn’t use almost at all in my PvP games. Too much available units for newbies? (DA and A/B)

    • Unlocking more unit capacity through progressing in PvP?

  • Unit placement (moving) has a lag.

  • The unit placement offset should maybe be larger?

  • Daily coin limit with victory rewards is demotivating. (DA or A/B)

  • Key levels: People generally don’t know the order of Greece alphabets. Add more instructions or a small infographic somewhere?

  • Changing the unit selection window has a choppy motion. Also, why it isn’t possible to slide the window left/right? Possible conflict with unit selection by slide-moving the icons is a poor excuse. (Also a lag with slide-moving the unit icons.)

  • Important UI icons (especially BACK icon!) should be larger. (DA)

  • I select gems, I cancel buying → "Purchase Failed" but it’s really not an error? (DA)

  • It takes 2 weeks to receive arena ranking rewards, really? (Did I get any reward when I got into the next arena? I don’t remember…) (A/B)

  • Why does a "coin bag" look like a coin chest?

  • The Story mode is too easy, it feels like a chore to complete missions. Why can’t I select the difficulty level immediately? (A/B)

  • Buying unit cards with coins has no feeling, definitely needs more animation. (A/B)

  • Some unit upgrade sounds are irritating. Also, I’d like to hear different sounds.

  • Main menu music begins to irritate fast. (I hope everybody agrees?) (A/B)

  • I got stuck in the "star gate" screen when my wifi connection was bad. Couldn’t cancel, and even the Android back button didn’t have a response (really bad!). I was able to continue gaming by changing to mobile data, but the only other option would’ve been to kill the app. (AD?)

  • Hibernating the app by turning screen off takes too long. At least the sounds should stop immediately!

What I’d like (and maybe other players too)

  • I’d like to turn the hero model at the start screen (if sliding has no UI function), or interact with that character. :)

    • More interaction possibilities with the hero models, just for fun! (A/B?)

  • Can I get some gem offers by progressing well in the game? I need some extra motivation to make purchases! (A/B?)

  • The icons of undiscovered units should probably be just black-and-white, not pitch black. Also, I’d like to see the unavailable unit icons. Now I cannot even anticipate/dream about them, because lock icons overlay unit icons. (A/B?)

  • I can see all information (including lore) about the currently available units. Why not remain a bit of mystery, especially with heroes? (A/B?)

  • Discovering new units (especially heroes) should be more like a small celebration. More animation perhaps?

  • "Daily login reward" is banally direct. There should be at least some other reason (it can be very thin) for daily rewards. (A/B?)
