How to install input method editors (IMEs) in Fedora KDE

Steps (IBus)

  1. Open Input Method Selector.
  2. In the application, choose Use IBus(recommended).

  1. Log out then log in.
  2. A language code should appear in your system tray (if you enabled system tray). Right-click on it.

  1. In the submenu that pops up, choose Preferences. This will open IBus Preferences.
    • If you don't have system tray, then you can repeat step 4, and click Preferences next to Use IBus(recommended).
  2. In IBus Preferences, head to the Input Method tab.

  1. Click on the Add button located on the right, which will open a window containing a list of language inputs.
  2. Choose a language you would like to have an input method for.
    • If it isn't available, click on the three dots option at the bottom, which will expand the list and add a search bar.

  1. Once the language has been chosen, choose an input method (e.g. Anthy for Japanese).
  2. Repeat steps 10 to 12 for other languages.

Extras

  • You can change the keyboard shortcut for changing input methods in the General tab (default is Super + Space).
  • To use other input method frameworks such as Fcitx5 or different IMEs such as Mozc for Japanese, do these before step 1.
    1. If you want, install the input method framework.
    2. Install the needed IMEs (refer to the same ArchWiki article).
    3. Continue with step 1.
