score, midi: Lilypond/Frescobaldi (also tried: muse score, denemo, aria maestoso, reaper's inbuilt midi editor)
I worked out the most part of the composition on paper first. I even created a textual score with Open Office Spreadsheet.
Todo: Problem with note entry on various tools, score software vs. composition software, loops sections with instant preview
Variations/workout on some segments of the score: melody assistant (free trial)
DAW : Reaper - free trial
Real Stuff: Violin, Zoom H1 Recorder
Asynchronous recording! Recorded the violin part separately in the portable recorder and later brought it to the DAW and synchronized with the bass line. Trick: Audible metronome count in the beginning of the recording, later metronome routed to headphones.
Why Asynchronous?
- Why not!
- Recorder picks up computer fan noise; I could record away from comp
- Levels issue when directly connected to USB. Probably some bug in Zoom H1 or settings issue.
- Possible quality loss when recorded using headphone jack?
Synth: Bass - Steinberg VB1 (fed to amp-model)
Processing: Mostly reaper in-built Dynamics/Effects + SIR Reverb (free) with included free reverb impulse.
