Toronto Outdoors

Spring/summer/fall (in order of distance)

  • Daytrip list
  • Tobermory swimming holes/grotto
  • Bruce Peninsula National Park - you can book backcountry sites here. Very chill hike, but really beautiful. I came from the east parking lot and then got a ride back to my car, but you could definitely just park at the main campground, camp at site HD6 (or thereabouts), and then hike back the next day, as it was only about 12km from there to the main camp.
  • Algonquin Provincial Park - I've only ever carcamped here, but there's a loop I've got a paper map for that I can send you a copy of. 3-5 day loop. Big one.
  • Killarney Provincial Park - OMG SO GREAT. This is closer to 5 hours away but holy crap it was beautiful. Pay for parking at the campsite, then get hustling. The whole loop is pretty huge tbh, but would be a lot of fun. Sites are booked, I think - I can't seem to find any of the confirmation emails I sent, so maybe I just showed up at the camp office and got them to give me a site.

Winter

My friend's list of things near TO:

Caledon

  1. Forks of the Credit - this is my favourite area near the city hands down. I hope to go on sunday to cycle. After, go to Belfountain (town adjacent to park) and get coffee and lunch at Higher Ground Cafe Or Spirit Tree Cidery not far

  2. Hilton Falls - just off the 401. Really nice forest to hike in, plus a waterfall.

East

  1. Rouge Park East on 401, near the zoo.

  2. Seaton Trail (trailhead) - you can actually see salmon swimming upstream here starting around mid-September. Follow the trail north; the parking lot is a little down the road called 'Forestream Trail'.

  3. Glen Major Forest Around Pickering. Have never been but heard there's great hiking/views

North

  1. Kortright Centre In Vaughan, walking/hiking trails. Very pretty.

West - Hamilton Area Lots of trails around here. Hamilton is the waterfall capital of canada!

  1. Websters Falls is beautiful, especially this time of year.

  2. Tiffany Falls Hike - Ancaster area. Lots of waterfalls. There's a few trails, and you can go on anywhere from 5-20km hikes.

Milton

  1. Rattlesnake Point
  • Great views, awesome tall trees forest. Mt Nemo near there is also meant to be really pretty.
