###Preliminary Concepts:
Part I
- Isovolumetric contraction happens after the AV valves close and before the systemic valves open. Isovolumetric contraction increases pressure in order to exceed that in the aorta, ensuring ejection is rapid.
- The SA node fires at the end of diastasis and the beginning of atrial systole.
- The ventricular action potential should fall right at the end of atrial systole so that the ventricles contract in-sync with the mitral valve closing. The QRS complex on an ECG represents the ventricular action potential. The ventricles finishes contracting at the end of rapid ventricular ejection. You would observe repolarization of the ventricles (T-wave) at the end of rapid ventricular and the start of reduced ventricular ejection.
- On the cellular level, contraction occurs when calcium binds troponin-C, causing tropomyosin to shift its position on actin. Myosin heads then bind actin and us
