netflix engineers cant count
Is it me or is it them?
Every night, I leave the office, grab some grub to go, bring it to my coffee table, and set up shop. I last for about 0 - 15 minutes flipping through the channels of commercials before I fire up the ol' xbox and wait 15 minutes until I am finally, at last, presented with Netflix's browsing menu (fuck you MS). This is the point for which this piece is written.
Is it me that can't count / figure, or is netflix stocked with half-wit engineers/designers? Lets say, for example, netflix has 100 titles in its library. Then lets say, there are 5 browsing rows (new, comedy, scary, lesbian (wait, what?),drama),and each have 10 titles (/columns) per row. Also, lets say that the other controls present are Exit(), and Search().
So, to the average user, it appears that netlix offers them 50 titles. To the advanced user it appears netflix offers 50 titles plus whatever titles the advanced user searches for AND finds (thats a big and)... You see where I am going with this dont you?
What is the point of having 100 movies WHEN YOU DONT ALLOW THE USER TO BROWSE 100 MOVIES???
Am I missing something? Because while these numbers are for example, the gist of it is, netflix, for whatever reason, does not have the capability to provide the user with the functionality to browse ALL existing titles in their netflix library.
At the end of the day, a user is presented with titles that a computer selects for them, a lot of times with a title appearing in way more than 1 row, and offers no way way to view the entire library.
Now if I've ever seen a waste of money, this is damn sure to be one. For those of you who would like to view all the titles, google "<title> + <netflix" .
And no netflix, I am not for hire.
