I made the assumption that your issue was probably that you didn't have $key defined; it's something Debian does in their /etc/zsh/zshrc.

So I cut out the good parts of that, and made this one. It's a little verbose for what it does, but the big benefit of using terminfo this way is, it should work on pretty much all terminals, rather than needing to be tweaked or added to when you switch between different ones.

If it turns out that wasn't your problem, I still learned some stuff, and now I have this nice config on my Fedora box as well ;)
