Nicknames in Wijkmanska Blecket

Version: 1.0.1

Summary

Any three people with a nickname can suggest a nickname for anyone who wants a nickname. If the recipient agrees, the nickname can be announced immediately by the KK or someone appointed by the KK for this purpose. Once a nickname has been announced, a tag will also be awarded in due time.

Details

Nicknames are supposed to be fun and enjoyable for both the owner and the orchestra. At the same time they can be awkward to come up with and agree, but having an established procedure about them can help. We therefore propose the following:

Rules

  1. The orchestra bestows a nickname by the following two acts
    1. announcing the nickname (via its KK or a person appointed by the KK) during any orchestra activity AND
    2. awarding a nickname tag The two acts can happen at the same time or not.
  2. Members with nicknames (hereby known as "nicknamers") are responsible so that "members without nicknames who want nicknames" (hereby called "neednamers") get nicknames.
  3. After a member has participated in the orchestra's activities for at least three (3) months, a nicknamer will ask them if they want a nickname. If they do, they become "neednamers". Members will never be required to get a nickname if they don't want to.
  4. For every neednamer, nicknamers are expected to agree upon an initial nickname suggestion using any means they prefer. An agreement for an initial suggestion requires a minimum of three (3) nicknamers. Such a suggestion must be agreed within one (1) month.
  5. Upon nicknamers agreeing, a neednamer must be asked in private whether they accept the suggested nickname and, if so, whether they want the nickname to be announced immediately or wait until a tag is also ready to be awarded. A nickname is never announced without consent.
  6. If the nickname is rejected, a new nickname suggestion shall be found. Further suggestions require an agreement of at least (5) nicknamers. A neednamer can also decide to accept any earlier suggestion at any time.
  7. If the new suggestion is rejected again, one more suggestion should be made, again by at least five (5) nicknamers. If that one is also rejected no further suggestions are promised.
  8. The orchestra orders and awards nickname tags at least once during Oct-Dec and once during Mar-May. Anyone who has accepted a nickname but not yet received a tag can expect to receive one at an appropriate occasion during those periods. More tags may be awarded at any time.
  9. If a tag has not been ordered, consent can be revoked. The suggested nickname is then considered rejected.
  10. Exceptions to these rules can be made, at the discretion of the orchestra's styrelse.

Motion

We ask that the orchestra accepts the aforementioned rules for bestowing nicknames.

Stormöte notes:

  • (Rev. 1, Move later): The orchestra bestows a nickname to a neednamer by announcing a neednamer-approved nickname to them. This action shall be complemented by awarding a nickname tag to the neednamer, which can happen at the same time as the announcement or not. To avoid the risk of the nicknaming system becoming a pressure point for feeling that one belongs in the orchestra, nickname-awarding celebrations shall not be held during orchestra events, but rather privately.
  • (Rev. 2): In order for a member of the orchestra to receive a nickname (hereby referred to as "neednamer"), they shall make a request of that to the STAB, possibly complemented with at least one consenting member of the orchestra that shall be appointed for that purpose. For a neednamer, a committee of members of the orchestra (hereby referred to as "nicknamers"), including the neednamer's suggestions, if any, shall be appointed and approved by the STAB.
  • (Rev. 9): Consent to a nickname can be revoked at all times.
  • (Add 11): Any member of the orchestra having a nickname can either completely opt out of the nickname system, or opt out of certain nicknames. Those nickname(s) shall then be denounced and are not to be used in the future, neither in textual nor in verbal form.
  • (Add 12): Any member of the orchestra not having a nickname shall not be required or pressured to receive one without their consent.

Main points, need to be rearranged and refined. Will do later. /G
