Fun. Innovative. And reasonably priced. This feels like a breath of fresh air into the tower defense genre. Support these devs!

Wishing there would be like a gamemode with infinitely many waves or something like that in the final game, the game's concept is too good to be only played in levels.

Fantastic little game. It's the type of game that could become a big game, with just a bit more content. The formula is SOLID, just not quite enough to do to leave early access. Which, in my opinion, is exactly what early access is about.
PROS:
- Gameplay with meaningful decisions. Do I go out and try to defend the realm, or save myself for the later battles of the night? Do I invest in my economy or my defense (you're familiar with this decision if you've played Kingdoms)? Which "front" do I focus on? And on the meta-level: Do I play this level with XYZ config, or ABC config? (to unlock new perks, etc)
CONS:
- It is short. It's worth full price right now, but it's going to take you 5 hours at the current state (August 2023)
- It feels like a game. Devs, I would encourage you to let players place buildings where we want instead of predefined positions. It currently feels like a "here's a level, figure out how to min/max it to win" instead of "enjoy this creation, have fun with it"
But overall, it's an easy recommendation. The devs have done phenomenally and deserve some good rest

Thronefall is a solid take on the formula built up by the Kingdom series (if you haven't played those, definitely check them out as well) - though this game leans a bit more into the city building and tower defense proper aspects of it, making it a bit more engaging for me.
Pros:
- Really enjoyable artstyle
- Straight Forward mechanics, while still maintaining complexity (really good rock/paper/scissors system for units vs enemies)
- Nice mix of defensive structures (several tower upgrade types, walls, trap versions of the windmill, barracks, and even essentially medieval spice strips)
- The boss is a proper challenge, that requires using the knowledge from the previous zones.
- Wide variety of perks to fit your playstyle, and penalties to make the game harder if you want it.
- Solid enemy variety, that's thematic to zones, and solid unit variety too.
Cons:
- Short (4-10 hours to beat the 4 areas in early access so far, but more areas will solve this - though you can get more play by going for challenges)
- Building locations pre-determined, so each map will only have X number of a give building type.
- Controls aren't rebindable (at least I didn't see a way to)
For a more in-depth discussion on the bulletpoints, and if you want to see the game in action - the "first look" after 6 hours can be found here:

If you're a fan of the Kingdom Series, you might just love Thronefall - since it adopts a lot of the same principles, but throws it into an isometric world with a much more detailed unit and building...

I would be willing to bet my unborn child that the developers of this game grew up and loved playing the Kingdom series. It is an incredibly unique and pleasant twist on their strategy mechanics.
If you like Kingdom: Two Crowns or any other game from that series, you'll like this game. Guaranteed.
If you don't, you won't.
I did, and I do, so it's a thumbs up from me :)

Simple but fun wave defense game. It's easy to grasp and develop a strategy to win. It's in EA so there'll be changes probably but I looked on their Discord and I am a bit disappointed.
Currently, in the 4 levels available, you build a town in a preset location and develop an economic and defensive town to survive all the waves. There's lots of variety in perks and town upgrades. You gain exp after every level whether you win or lose. After a certain amount of exp you unlock the next thing. I'm at the last level and almost beat it, but died to the boss, but I still have much to unlock. For me, I would prefer if unlocking new stuff was easier. I'm not really the type to replay a level multiple times unless it'll be a different experience.
This leads to my next problem. I don't want to replay levels even if I'm "supposed" to. The town core, every tower, farms, whatever, are all in preset locations. I don't know if the enemies are the same each time but the first wave of every level is for sure. This lack in variety doesn't make me want to replay levels, because I would just do near the exact same thing to win right? If there are some major perks or mutators that change the gameplay I apologize for my ignorance, however, the literal fact I don't have them unlocked or even know about them would be part of the problem if they exist. I don't know how many more levels they plan on adding, if any, but it's a pretty short game at the moment.
Now the real disappointing part to me is the fact that the developers have confirmed that there will be no co-op or level editor. They're also a bit unsure on modded content and endless mode. Obviously this is at no fault to this devs because they are only 2 people and can only do so much.
I guess my main point here is I'm in absolute love with the concept, but I REALLY want this to be more than a simple and small game. I want co-op and community workshop content. If there's a game similar to this that has that I would love to know.
Everything aside, is it a fun game? Yes. I recommend it, I had fun, and it's not too pricey. Though, I will say, I impulse bought this game and kinda wish I waited for a sale. It's good, but now I have an itch for this type of game and no way to satisfy it. After I beat the final boss I probably won't be replaying any levels to unlock everything else so I hope they ramp up exp progression.

Very enjoyable, this is one of those games you play before bed after hopping off vc with the boys for sure. There's just something charming about the graphics and it's really easy to pick up and just play. There isn't a lot of content at the moment since it's still in EA but i'm looking forward to seeing what this game could become in the future!

Since the game was released, I have sunk about 15 hours across 4 days into the 4 available levels. I have enjoyed every second thus far, and I am very much looking forward to further content being added in due course. The developers have created a wonderful blend of very basic RTS, Tower Defence and Hack & Slash gameplay. Whilst that might sound slightly complex, what the developers have endeavoured to do (and in my opinion, succeeded in) is actually take those core concepts and strip them back to their roots. This means that the game and its mechanics are really quite simple and do not require a great deal of thought when playing. However, the further in you get, the harder the game tries to flatten your kingdom, leading to a steep learning curve towards the later levels.
As you progress, you earn XP which grants you new weapons, perks and mutators (to make the game harder). I found the unlockables to be rewarding and worthwhile - Thankfully, they're also very achievable and earned at a nice pace. Once you have completed a level, you can replay it at any time from the menu screen. A fresh game allows you to choose from your unlocked weapons, perks (you can only have a limited number on at once) and mutators, meaning that there is a wealth of replayability. Each level has a number of challenges to be completed, requiring the player to select certain weapon, perk and mutator combinations. These offer up a real challenge for the hardcore players that feel compelled to finish it all (like me)!
The game features a number of varying friendly units and buildings as well as a good number of differing enemy types. Friendly units and buildings must first be purchased using coins generated from other buildings or fallen enemies from the previous night. Each night gets progressively more difficult as the attacking threats grow in strength and numbers. You are the strongest weapon in your kingdom's arsenal, but your units and defences can be upgraded alongside you through the use of specific buildings. The friendly and unfriendly AI is quite basic, which can cause issues when actioning defensive strategy. For example, after ordering my knights to stand at the entrance to one enemy spawn, they decided they didn't feel like doing as they were told and instead decided to be aggro'd half way across the map because enemies had spawned their first. This leads to awkward moments when a second wave of bad guys spawns in to a completely undefended group of eco buildings and I immediately lose a load of income for the next day because my buildings get railed. Having said all this, once you get to know their idiotic little ways, they do become more predictable and therefore more reliable.
There is plenty more to discuss for such a tiny little games, but overall, I just love the thing. It's a fantastic, quirky little indie hidden gem that deserves all the support and backing it can get. I urge you to give it a try and let me know what you think. Again, I'm really looking forward to future content as I'm sure I heard the devs are planning on adding 4 additional levels (don't quote me on that). I wonder what else in in-store for Thronefall...? I'll be here, waiting to find out!

What I liked
- Easy going RTS: It reminded me of how relaxing but still active Vampire Survivor was. The impact you have during a wave is small but still detrimental. This keeps you busy without feeling like you have to play perfectly.
- Predefined building placement: Having all the buildings in predefined places makes you focus on just one aspect of RTS games, what to buy next. It also gives you nice looking towns without having to put in any work.
- Townhall building expansion: Its nice how you only get a limited amount of building options until you upgrade the townhall. This makes you less overwhelmed by options.
- Upgrades: The upgrades feel good. They give you interesting ways to play and things to focus on. Like the townhall upgrade that will upgrade 1 free house every round. It makes you want to have a un-upgraded house ready every round.
- Unit strength and weakness: Instead of going for the standard rock/paper/scissor model there is more depth to your units.
- Steam friend list highscores: The highscores are a nice add especially if you have some friends on Steam that you can compete with. Having a time bonus for the scoring means that there is many ways to make a difference.
- Unique boss: The boss fight was a surprise. It’s simple but I think it works for this game.
- Suicide Mills: I thought the mill upgrade where you turn them into a self detonating weapon when they are destroyed were pretty funny and unique.
What I didn’t like
- Units > Towers: It seems like the towers are significantly weaker than the units you can recruit. But maybe I have not played enough to see how to make them work. In general the balance might be something that needs work.
- Units keep resetting to spawn: You can move your army around and have them wait at a position and even hold their ground but after a wave they will walk back to their original spawn.
- Flying enemy: The visuals of the flying enemy and an enemy that rushes to your buildings are not different enough. I kept mixing them up. Using some sort of wings in the icon and model of the flying enemy should help.
- Tree visuals: The visuals are basic but fine though the yellow blobs that I assume are supposed to be trees don’t look very good.
- No back button in settings: The game is certainly focused on playing with controller. The first time I started the game I had trouble figuring out how to get out of the settings menu. With the ESC key, there was no button.
- Tutorial annoyance: It took me a while to finish the part where you have to kill units with your ability. My passive kept killing them.
- Mission setup UI: It's hard to see what weapon is selected in setup menu. The highlight is very subtle.
Why others should try it
Even in this early stage it is a fun game to play around with. It’s an elegant design that keeps things simple but provides surprising depth. Even if RTS games are not your jam you might still like the simplicity of this one.

This game is a lot of fun.
I love the custom difficulty settings which help with replayability.
This is exactly as advertised, I think I'll easily get 10-15hrs of fun out of this game and will excitedly wait for new maps and updates
I would love to see a level with some randomized enemies. When I tried to beat a map with many disadvantages enabled I found myself repeating the same build order for the first 4 or 5 levels many times. Randomizing the location enemies spawn or types of enemies would add some nice variation to each play through

It's ok for now, but it has room for improvement.
I wish they implement an endless mode with a bigger map and more construction nodes. This type of game can and will benefit from having such a mode.
I wish the gold generation was a bit better implemented. Every structure you buy basically have to lose money on it the next round it starts generating and god forbid if it gets destroyed then it will be inactive for one round after it gets reconstructed.
I wish my troops would stay in place if i tell them to stay in place. I had archers multiple time dashing around the map when i wanted them to defend a point.
I kinda hate the farms in this game, the yield is low and you can't protected them with a wall since the placement is close to the edge where the enemies respawn.
For 7 euros the game is worth it but it could be better. As of right now after putting in almost 3 hours into the game i say it an ok buy but be prepared to get a bit frustrated.

I've really enjoyed playing Thronefall. Even though it only has four levels in the Early Access version right now, each one is fun and full of challenges. The game looks super cute, and everything works smoothly; I didn’t run into any bugs or glitches.
Some things that could make it even better:
Troop Controls: Easier or more detailed controls over the troops would be awesome.
Building/Troop Variety: I'd love to see more diverse defensive structures and troops.
Undo Feature: An undo button would be handy for those little mistakes we make during the building phase.
UI Enhancements: It would be super helpful if I know which wave I'm currently on and how many waves are left would really add to the experience. It would be great if this can be added, perhaps as a toggle option in the settings for those who prefer the added challenge without this info.
But overall, I'm really excited about where this game is headed and can't wait to see more! Definitely recommend giving it a try!

This game hooked me in a demo at the Steam Next Fest enough to buy it on the spot once it became available.
Small (for now) yet catchy game about defending your castle from waves of various enemies. Each level is a puzzle for which you should find the most suitable approach. Once you handle the default variant, you then can try to replay it with difficulty modifiers, which might change your strategy completely, allowing you to play the same puzzle while feeling that it's a brand new level.
The game already has enough stuff to keep you for 5-10 hours, and it's only in the first stages of early access.
For its price, the game is funny albeit a niche game worth your time and money, assuming you're into this kind of gameplay (you should be able to decide just by looking at the trailer on the store page).

Honestly, I wish I liked this game, but unfortunately it really doesn't feel fun.
Maybe I have an issue with how most of the perks have downsides which make them almost negatives, maybe it's how on trying to get 6/6 you need to follow an exact formula otherwise you fail, maybe how it's the fact that A lot of the buildings seem like traps to pull a gotcha over the players. In any case I really wish I liked this game more, genuinely, but this really is not for me.
Lets start with the positives. The Art style is a low poly, cartoon-ish, jam which really works quite well. Whoever did the art and 3d side nailed it right on the head and it looks great without ever tiring out.
The sound is alright, I wouldn't say particularly stunning but it does it's job without outstaying it's welcome. I just wish that there was a bit more of a pop to things audibly.
The concept is a great idea! 3D Kingdom with roguelike elements and perks is baller and I'm surprised no one has done anything like this before. But unfortunately this is where the downside begin for me.
The tutorial felt like it did a great job of explaining the mechanics of the game, though as a small note I feel like the PC control scheme is horrendous, which likely impacted my enjoyment of the game. I don't think I should have to use left shift, ctrl, or alt when I have the rest of the keyboard and my right hand available. Maybe that's just me, because it seems to work for a lot of other people.
The gameplay is actually quite simple, and that works in favour of the game in most cases but unfortunately I found that I wasn't engaged after completing the tutorial area. For me that's a bit of an issue, because I'm expecting the rest of the game to follow suit, so after seeing the 6 quests to be completed I decided to try and complete them all in one go.
This is where pain begins.
I found very quickly that if you don't follow an exact formula you will not get anywhere far, which unfortunately means that the perk system stopped being fun ways to alter your game play and more mandatory good and bad stats you are required to have to complete the mission (especially if you only have access to one, such as the beginning of the game).
This also couples with the idea that your economic buildings don't produce anything the night they are destroyed, which again sounds like a great idea on paper, but in reality (for challenge mode) means that a single field going down kneecaps your power curve to the point that you are nigh on guaranteed to lose on one of the problem waves (providing your king doesn't die when kiting the enemies away which really doesn't tether for long enough).
I think this brings me to the overall problem I have with this game. Losing doesn't feel fun.
I know that's supposed to be the point, but when I play a game with rogue like element I'm expecting losing to be part of the formula, and if it's expected then I'm expecting some level of fun to arise out of it. Take slay the spire for example (not a fair comparison I know, but I can't really think of a similar game that I've played. This game is genuinely quite unique.), dying is an expected part of the process which means even on long runs it's fast and painless and super simple to get right back into the swing of things. In this game, dying is followed by a 10 second respawn timer (which is a surprisingly long period of inaction). This dying often leads to destroyed buildings, which as I mentioned earlier on early levels means a guaranteed loss. And the game over screen, feels like it takes too long after all of the other shenanigans that you've likely went through before this point. It wouldn't be a bad thing, if I could skip the loss screen but unfortunately I've not been able to. Maybe I wasn't pressing the right buttons, but the game's been conditioning me to only care about the left shift, ctrl & alt.
If you enjoy the game, all the more power to you, and genuinely a round of applause to the devs because it's clear you've put in a lot of great work. But I don't think this game quite lives up to the expectations I was hoping it would be from the screen shots.
Tl:dr - The game's idea is briliant, and the polish is great. But I don't quite think that the execution is quite there. I wish I could put in a mixed review but I'm forced to pick between a positive or negative.

this game is ridiculously fun. genuinely a blast. the art style is so cute, if you like wave defense or even strategy games and you want a little goofy chill game with a ton of replay-ability, this is the one. it's a little short right now, but it's in early access so I'm not worried about it.

This is one cute little tower defence game. The graphics and sound are really nice for this type of game and it just plays really smooth. For a few euro's I think the 4 levels (they have replayability and challenges) are worth it.
I hope they expand on the levels and make more biomes.
I definitely recommend this game for tower defence lovers. It is not so much a city builder in my eyes because the buildings can only be placed in pre-allocated places.

It is a nice and fun little game, with a unique bland of rts + action. The devs seem bussy with makeing improvements to the game and i am personally looking forward to seeing with what they come up with. I've seen some nice QOL improvements since the demo was out.
Pros:
-Unlocks via. perks to make the game diffrent every game.
-Smooth gameplay, very intuitive.
-Engageing, you don't feel like you're ideling.
Cons:
-A short game, allthough the devs says they will improve it.

A breathe of fresh air. Some tower defenses have a hero mode, but this one is fantastic with the ability to grab troops and guide them to strategic points. Got an AOE ability on your guards? Feel free to charge them into the thickest wave possible for maximum damage. Annoyed at the archers targeting literally nothing? Move them into position.
Player activity is a keystone element to play. And it is a highly diverse tower defense, with constant unlocks to new tower types, player weapons, and guard types.

Early Access review:
-Fun tower defense style game
-I really like the concept of this game and enjoyed my time with it
-Custom difficulty settings paired with the quest system allows for really good replayability
-Great system where you need to manage your eco and defensive capabilities
-Different weapons for your character to choose from which change the gameplay a lot.
-Great price
Why negative review?
-Currently the troop management system is EXTREMELY tedious, if you want to move troops between locations, you need to go gather the troops and move them to the new location yourself where you can set their "waypoint", this gets really annoying on the larger maps as you need to run back and forth a lot
-No option to control your units DURING the night other than the same system as mentioned above where you need to gather the troops, and then guide them to the location you want them to stay, this means you can have some troops not do anything (mainly archers) after they have killed the smaller wave on their path.
-UI Scalability slider would be appreciated addition, currently you have option to make the UI larger, but it makes it massive where it takes substantial amount of screen space and the base setting is tiny bit small for me.
I fully believe the troop management system will be improved with later updates, then i can easily recommend this game.

Played this game during one of the Steam Fest events and I tried about 12 games (Mainly city builders) and this one was my favorite hands down, so I was really looking forward to its release into Early Access.
Wonderful Tower Defence game that also has great art design, good controls, super fun gameplay and good replayability. So far I have played a few hours of the demo and a few hours of the full game and I am very impressed. This game is without a doubt the best Tower Defense game I have played in years and years (Probably since Orcs Must Die 2 or Sanctum 2).
Easy to play for 20 minutes at a time or an hour or 2, easy to learn but a good amount to master. If you are looking for a new Tower Defense game that also has great art design and has really fun gameplay, this is the game for your, I am just loving it.
It also works perfectly on the steam deck, controls are perfect for a controller and the performance is great, def going to be one of my go to Steam Deck games for awhile.
There isn't really anything I can bad about this game so far tbh, there has been two small bugs I found but thats it, everything else is very very positive for this game. Amazing its a Early Access game to because the base gameplay and art design here is already fantastic and done imo, just add more levels and items and I will be playing this game for years.
Lastly, the price of this game, $8 Canadian? Crazy good deal, for my enjoyment of the game I would have paid $15 or $20 for it. I honestly hope that after this game hits 1.0 that we maybe get an expansion or DLC for more content. The gameplay is just so dang fun, I hope the devs realize they have a real winner on there hands here with the gameplay being so good and so fun already.
Keep at it devs, this is the best Tower defense game for me since Orcs Must Die 2. Keep adding to it in Early Access and if it sells enough after 1.0, seriously think about doing an expansion or DLC, especially at this price point and how fun the gameplay is.
Can't wait to see what else the devs add to the game because so much of it is already in great shape, with a few more levels and more items this game will be a real winner and a real steal for gamers at this price (Thank you to the Thronefall devs and the Battlebit devs for the price of there games, super fun games at very affordable prices).
This game probably sits around #3 on my GOTY list, with Baldurs Gate 3 and A Pale Beyond being my other two favorites so far this year. Very fun and chill, relaxing game.
**Steam should make this game Verified on the Steam Deck, it works wonderful on it!**

For the current price, BUY THIS RIGHT NOW.
This is the perfect blend of roguelite and tower defence. And I actually mean the PERFECT blend. It's like Kingdom Two Crowns but in 3d with less story/stage progression and more nuanced combat/build depth.
The 4 missions in the game currently will probably take you about 2 hours tops to beat, however I've continued to play for almost quadruple that time because I'm still unlocking 2-3 more things every stage I repeat and there are actually difficult challenges/affixes you can complete each mission with to earn you a higher score thus unlocking even more things!
Very controller friendly, and perfect to kick back, relax, and waste hours on. I am nowhere near finished with the 100%, I estimate that to take me around 15-18 hours total (my brain is tiny), and I am VERY EXCITED for future unlocks, stages and an endless mode.
Also co-op would be delightful.

Very charming Kingdom Rush type game. Gameplay is fun, visuals are great. Very solid game well-worth the small price. Absolutely purchase this if you at all like tower defense games. Be aware that this is early access so there are only 4 levels to play (though replayability seems high -- I've already replayed a couple maps and enjoyed the replay).
Some things I hope change before full release:
1. I always want to move fast. Holding down a key for this feels bad.
2. The rally circle for troops is too small: I can't rally all of them from a single barracks (have to move and grab them). Again, this feels bad.
3. Troop position reset after each wave. They should stay where I've placed them after each wave (or have some setting that allows this).
4. Would be great to be able to rally troops during a wave without having to run over to each little clump.
5. Regularly troops won't engage with waves, staying near their barracks. Their trigger circles should be larger.
Great game, please buy to support further development! (And because the game is fun in its current state!)

This game is like Kingdom 2 crowns but if it was actually fun. Snappy rounds, elegant town building, with a lot of room for strategy on econ vs defense. With plenty of perks and unit/weapon/building choices to make, there's a lot of ways to strategize a 'build' for your kingdom. Each session doesn't overstay it's welcome so I don't feel burnt out after a full game. I can't wait to start playing around with the modifiers to really challenge myself.
I don't know if this game has endless mode but it would be a welcome addition. I'd love to see what a maxed out kingdom looks like, and how many goons it would take to overrun it.

Outstanding little game - Low price, plenty of replayability, and a good core keeps it interesting. The only downside is the relative lack of content - Only 3 "true" levels isn't many, but the variety of challenges and score chasing is very encouraging for its future development.

By the third map I was exhausted. If you like Kingdom Two Crowns and expect this to be a 3D version of it, I'm not sure you'll find yourself having a good time with Thronefall. I think that this game needs to have more of a campaign than just defending and moving on to another level to start again.
There is not much satisfaction for me building up a base, defending it and then moving on to another level to start from scratch. It gets grating quickly. In Kingdom, you bring gold and citizens with you from place to place. You are travelling, trying to unite the kingdom. That theme oozes out - right now Thronefall is little more than a tech demo in comparison... which is fine because it's Early Access... right? I don't think so... the roadmap is just "more levels!". I think there don't need to be more levels - the levels need to be expanded! Exploring the 2D levels on Kingdom was so much fun! There doesn't seem to be a lot of exploration in Thronefall.
I thought I'd like how the game cut to the chase quicker, but to me it feels akin to the flash games we played years ago. I would definitely jump on a mobile port of this game.
For me, other games do defense better. I think what is missing for me is permanence. I don't feel like I've properly settled anywhere in this game - I just plod along getting little bits of money.

Update Oct 4 2023!
Even more fun. Game no longer works on Mac. Just a black screen.
Previously on my overly bitter about a $7 early access video game review....
There is no eh option so nay it is or at least for now.
The "key" issue is that they keys aren't mappable and the game uses the CRTL key.
Do you know what happens on a Mac if you use the CRTL key and move the arrow keys? If not then you shouldn't release a game and tag it as Mac, if you do then it's irresponsible to release a game like that.

I bought Thronefall with no knowledge of the game at all. I have not seen a single video about the game or even heard any of my friends talk about it. It kind of came out the blue for me. I bought it because I am a fan of "tower defence" games. It just looked good to me. Was it good? YES. Yes it was. To me, Thronefall is an absolute hidden gem thrown in the mix of all these AAA title games releasing.
My Verdict
Thronefall is the proof that a game does not need "AAA" graphics, mechanics, gameplay e.t.c to be good. Its minimalism makes it an absolute blast and it has the potential to become EVEN better. Right now it has a Tutorial zone and 3 other zones to "defend" and "build" your castle. With the mechanics this game has implemented they are some of the strongest TD mechanics I have seen for a long time. The fact that I can build my "castle/city" and roam around the little maps you get killing the waves of enemies on the back of my horse is just amazing. It tells you to have the correct balance between economy and defence and it really means it. It can get hard if you spend to much money on "houses" to earn more income and forget about your defences. It also has a semi-in depth build system with perks that increase your chance of survival or, you can add mutators to make it harder on yourself if you find it to easy.
EDIT: I joined the discord and it turns out they have much more content on the way!! Game has SO much potential!
10/10. An amazing Tower Defence/City building game. This has so much potential and with the developer stating it has much more content on the way its 100% worth it AND its only £5.89!!!!! I would pay £10+ for this game! AMAZING!

As long as it takes to grind to new unlockables, the game seriously lacks replayability.
Modifiers, particularly when mandated by a quest, create situations which require precise optimizations with near zero room for failure or improvisation. It's the kind of game that feels and looks like it should be relaxed but instead demands a high bar for pre-planning as well as micro-ing.
You will have a ton of fun for the price but will get bogged down in unlocking new options about halfway through. Once the honeymoon phase is over, it's really over.
If they turn around and allow for a level creator or some sort of greater control over the placement of buildings, this game will be a masterpiece. Anything that mitigates the frustration of a lost run. Getting XP for your run really doesn't feel that enticing, as you'll go many runs before you receive an unlockable you want to play with. It's crazy to think that most people will probably have their entire experience be with the same 1 or 2 builds, never getting to see what else this game can offer.
For now, it's a simple but accordingly frustrating experience when you take it to it's utmost difficulty.

It's a very good indie-city-builder game. I've been looking for games like this for a long time and I'm very glad you made it.
All details are good, with a good atmosphere and playability.
What I would add would be that the players themselves could build buildings - gates, houses, and towers in different places.
Also, more levels of buildings and more levels of the game itself, as well as a sandbox, would be nice.
In short, I want to tell you that I want this game to develop very positively and not abandon as many developers do.
ONE OF THE BEST GAME! <3

Fantastic Game, this falls into the perfect category of RTS for me. Simple to learn, hard to master. Straightforward controls and mechanics, but a complex amount of choice with how you play. There are so many different combinations of tech/weapons/strategy you can choose that even a small change in your "build" has a drastic affect on your run. It's engaging, it keeps you playing, and most of all it's just fun.
I personally set a goal to 100% the game, which seemed simple at the start, but got difficult fast. Each kingdom has a series of quest and mutations that change the way you play, and honestly turn it into a little bit of a puzzle, trying something different everytime to see how far you could get with a specific strategy, until you finally found the right one for the right quest/mutation. To give an example, to complete all the quest on the final kingdom, for one of the quest I probably played 40 attempts, all with different tweaks to my playstyle/strategy to get over the hump and complete it (don't sleep on the glass cannon build for bow)
The only criticism I truly have is the system to place your units, while simple it can be difficult to not have different types mix, and after every round the units reset to their default placement, meaning you have to re position as needed.
Overall, this game slaps, it does everything it intended and more. I will gladly buy any DLC released, and will support the creators in anyway I can. Give it a chance, see how hard you can push certain strategy's and how creative you can get with your mechanics vs macro strategy

This game is the only tower defense style of game I have ever enjoyed! The art style is super cute and the mechanics are easy to understand and get a handle on. The challenge mutators add a fun challenge to the levels so you can make it as difficult as you want or you can just test different builds out without any mutators!

Great tower defense game with lots of hopes for more such as an endless mode? custom maps? and if were lucky proc gen maps hint hint devs ;) if you read this and don't have any ideas. Brilliant game wish there was more. Also some more recommendations for quality of life such as retrying a wave, allowing for deupgrading (only for towers you upgrade that day as mistakes do happen) and a save feature would be great, also hopefully it can come to mobile as its a great game and seems like it could support that.

I've finished all the missions in the first 13 hours except one with that being getting a score of 12500 on the final map. I'm on like 24 hours of game play and i've still not been able to get it. even though it feels impossible hard it's also what i believe a smart way to keep people playing. When you're one mission off getting 100% achievements and that missions crazy hard and you finally get it, it hits diff. That's the only reason i'm still playing to get that feeling. Overall good game for early access
Edit: I finally got all achievements after a perfect run

In my opinion, this is a highly frustrating and repetitive tower defense game with roguelike gameplay where you must repeatedly attempt to progress by grinding through defeat after defeat. I did pretty well in the demo because the demo only allowed the first two areas of the map to be played. However, after purchasing the early access version, I quickly learned that the third area was flat out impossible for me personally. This is because by the third area, this game throws relentless swarms of enemies at you so quickly that easily overwhelm and destroy your castle. There are also no difficulty settings and your character is constantly killed. You must then wait for a period of time before you respawn. But by then, enemies have most likely already destroyed your castle. This game started off enjoyable but then became too frustrating and repetitive. I therefore cannot recommend it and would rather play better games with my time.

Casual, straight-forward, fun, satisfying. A good game to unwind at the end of the day that's not overly demanding but still has enough challenge and variation that you have to consider your strategy. Plus: pleasing, clean visual design; immersive, distinct music; and satisfying sound effects that all match the scope of the game. Very well-designed! But like others have mentioned, an endless mode would be fantastic.

I just finished the campaign that is currently available on the game ( from the tutorial, to the world of ice ) and a little over 3 hours, while winging started the world 3~5 times and the world 4, 3 times.
I haven’t finished the game 100% yet.
I think that the game is really good and fun, but I noticed some negative points that I transmit here for the developers.
1 ) Regarding the weapon that our character can equip, the sword is superior ( but really ) compared to the spear and the bow that are next to it are unplayable.
2 ) Playing the money at the beginning of the game or our hero alone can handle the first 3-4 waves makes the game simple for the end of the game ( I tried to play defense from the beginning by buying defenses, but I never managed to win ). Idea on my part, but defensive buildings that give money ( but in less quantity could be an alternative ).
3 ) The remote units we can train in the camps surpass the land units in my opinion.
Then I say that as a player to remove the penalties for the last level because otherwise I would not have succeeded.
A coop mode could be a good addition because in a 3D tower defence game, playing with a friend ( like in Minecraft L3g3nd ) could make the game bcp + high fun
+ capital upgrade level + walls etc .... could be good for future levels.
the fact of being able to save a level progression and to come back to it later or kinds of '' check point' for the long levels where we lose at the end would also be nice.
Negative point: the management of the troops is really not practical, example: to put the troops behind the walls and those of melee in front lines, the way to separate them is a horror

It's very satisfying to "master" a map. There really is a lot of emergent complexity from a relatively simple set of rules.

A very fun and challenging tower defense game. It is smooth, responsive, and cute. But it is also challenging and has enough depth for you to mix and match different ideas, play styles, and tactics. I personally found myself using the exact same weapon and the same perks throughout all of my journeys but there are plenty of options for different challenges and experiences.
I do wish there were more maps and more game modes like endless, or something. or to have a mode where the spawns are randomized each time. But for $7 it is 100% completely worth it exactly as it is now. Very fun and engaging gameplay. A literal steal at this price!

Thronefall is a delightful blend of Tower Defence and RTS where you prepare your defences and forces pre-round, then can actively move and fight during the round. The economy is simple enough, but in combination with the unit types, perks, and upgrades, this provides a good amount of depth to create an engaging game which easily consumes hours.
With it being Early access there is clearly scope for this to be built upon and expanded. I would love a level creator element (Edit: in the far future as for the time being it has been ruled out) where the community can create their own levels having control of the building nodes (which are pre-determined as far as i can tell) and enemy unit composition each round.

This is a rare 'early access' gem, the gameplay is easy to understand and smooth, the art style is astounding, and you have numerous builds you can try out! Each of the 3 maps have 'quests' that challenge you to complete the game with specific gear and/or modifiers which gives another tier of replayability. Only downside I can think of is sometimes your AI units are a bit dumb when it comes to enemy selection, but this is not the norm. I really hope the devs continue to grow this game with new maps, enemies, perks, modifiers, and everything else.
Unbelievable worth your money, 9.5/10

Impressive Game.
From the moment I laid eyes on the tutorial gameplay, I had an immediate sense that this game would deliver an enjoyable experience – and guess what? It absolutely does, even beyond my expectations.
The game provides a diverse range of approaches to navigate through waves strategically, offering two primary gameplay options. Firstly, there's the engaging tower defense style that involves upgrading towers. Alternatively, you can dive into the hack and slash gameplay, bolstering troops and yourself with comprehensive upgrades, or even seamlessly blending both approaches.
The inclusion of a variety of weapons, perks, and mutators is a highlight. I'm eagerly anticipating more content for this game in the future.
Hats off to the developers for creating such a fantastic game! Looking forward to the exciting journey ahead with your future updates.

TL;DR: A stunning combination of a tower defense and a town builder that takes all the lessons learned from Kingdom Rush and the great context interface of Kingdom. A very polished piece that leaves me hungry for more.
A friend of mine bought this game for me and i finally came around to playing it. We love Stronghold, Kingdom Rush and Kingdom and this game hits right in the space between them. It's not a castle defense like stronghold, not a tower defense like Kingdom Rush and not a town builder like Kingdom but takes many great elements from them and combines them into a unique design.
You ride around on your horse, spend your money on constructing and upgrading buildings and punch everything that wants to touch those. Positions and types of buildings are fixed in place and depend on the map. You choose your spendings right on the edge where your greed doesn't get you killed by a wave, resulting in your build order.
To tickle your strategic mind the developers added a loadout with different perks that change your approach to a specific level and weapons that change how your king engages the enemies. If you feel underchallenged you can activate bonusses for your enemies which make the levels significantly harder. Different achievements are tied to those so you are incentivised to play around.
There are beautiful details like how your king can juggle enemies' attention by smacking them, saving your subordinates by enraging those who aren't. Enemy types are vast already and force you to adapt, with little to no overlap between their designs.
The game runs smoothly, looks very nice with it's stylized visuals and did not crash or stutter during my playtime. The sound ambiance is fitting and spot-on. Levels surprise you with their challenge but engage you strongly and offer some replayability.
If you wring the early access version there are 16h here to find but the overall design and product are so expertly crafted, that i am really hungry for what the developers have in store.
The only two things i'd like considered are:
- A dedicated retry button that saves me the waiting time of the statistics
- Let me retry the wave instead of forcing a complete restart since another choice of upgrades might make all the difference on a level
I might praise the game too much right now but it's a throne im happy to fall off of.

I love this. It's a challenging game, but the limited options make it even more strategic. Only specific build locations and types make you think about what to invest in.
The only thing I don't like is when I reach level 23 and unlock my 3rd perk. My jaw dropped. All my old high scores? Worthless now! I wish there were a way to unlock everything immediately; grinding 10 hours to find out your old scores are meaningless doesn't feel great. I didn't progress or improve as a player; I just unlocked something overpowered.
I would much prefer a page where you can see all perks and pick and choose with points on which you'd like to try out.
What I would like to see.
- Endless Mode
- Custom Mode, the ability to put any buildings anywhere
- The ability to move units easier
- Zoom In / Out feature
- Stats
I would love Stats for towers and units. The description of saying something is better for one and not the other could be clearer. Do the units have the same health? Attack speed? Damage? I remember when I upgraded the tower to the sniper tower for 15 gold and didn't expect its attack speed to drop by almost x10.
I look forward to seeing the game's progress; I'll return when new levels or challenges are added.

Adorable tower defense game with reasonably simple mechanics that are easy to grasp. Economy management, troop placement, decisions on perks and various ways to tackle the waves of mobs that surge at night gives enough game-play variation to keep you goin for a good few hours in the state the game is currently in! Excited to see progress and more added!

bro, this game is so good. Like I am in love with the art style, much like my children. but the devs need to fix the position locking with the units so they can fall back with broken through enemies. I hate it when the kiddies are penetrating my defenses, if you know what i mean.

This is a great little game that you'll almost certainly like if you enjoy RTS games and/or Tower Defense games. This is quickly becoming a favorite "casual" game for me, though the game play doesn't feel light in a casual way. Really an amazing effort and a fun game from a 2 person dev team.

Fun little strategy game that works very well with controller. It has night/day cycle, where you build during the day, battle during the night. Its also a rogue-like where every run you unlock perks and even harder difficulty perks. When trying higher difficulties, it can get STRESSFUL (i stg) and you really need to balance your economy/defence. Your perks will also make a big impact on what you upgrade.
At this time content is limited, with only 4 levels which took me like 5h, and really loved one of the battles (no spoilers). But trying to beat everything in higher difficulties adds quite a few more hours to this. Plus once it releases it should have more levels I hope.
Id say for the price, its worth it.

Adorable and sharp minimalist art style, a quick and satisfying gameplay loop that distills tower defense and base building down to their core components, and quite a bit of replayability with various mutators, unlocks, weapon options, and perks. What's not to love? Plus, it's only $7. Pick it up if you want a mashup of Kingdom Two Crowns, Kingdoms and Castles, and Kingdom Rush that's fun, snappy, and hopefully going to get a lot of love and updates in the future, because it definitely deserves them.

I never thought I could fall in love with a fruit, but there it was—a perfectly ripened plum, sitting innocently on my kitchen counter. Its deep, rich color called out to me, and I found myself unable to resist its allure.
It all began on a warm summer afternoon. I had just returned from the farmer's market, my canvas bag filled with an assortment of fresh fruits and vegetables. Among them was the plum, its skin slightly taut, a hint of a blush spreading across its surface. I picked it up, cradling it gently in my palm, feeling its weight and potential.
As I examined the plum, my mind wandered to the moments we would share. I imagined the delicate dance of flavors that would unfold with each bite, the sweet and tart notes mingling on my tongue. I pictured myself savoring its flesh, feeling its juices burst forth, painting a symphony of sensations in my mouth.
Days turned into weeks, and the plum remained untouched, a tantalizing promise waiting to be fulfilled. I couldn't explain why I held back; perhaps it was the fear of ruining the perfection that lay before me. But deep down, I knew it was more than that. It was a connection, a bond that had formed between me and this humble piece of fruit.
Late one evening, with a heart full of anticipation, I finally gave in. I took the plum in my hand, its skin cool against my fingertips. I raised it to my lips, inhaling its sweet aroma, and then took that first, blissful bite. Time seemed to stand still as the flavors danced on my taste buds, a crescendo of pleasure building with each passing second. It was as if the world had faded away, leaving only me and the plum, intertwined in a moment of pure, unadulterated ecstasy.
With each subsequent bite, I felt a rush of emotions that I had never experienced before. It was more than just a physical delight; it was a connection, an intimacy that went beyond the surface. I found myself whispering sweet nothings to the plum, praising its beauty, and thanking it for the joy it had brought into my life.
As the last bite disappeared into my mouth, I couldn't help but feel a pang of sadness. The fleeting nature of our affair struck me, and I realized that our time together had come to an end. But I also knew that the memory of that ripe, luscious plum would forever be etched in my heart.
And so, I found myself in love—not with a person, but with a plum. It was a love that had caught me by surprise, a love that had brought me moments of sheer bliss and a deeper appreciation for the simple pleasures in life. As I placed the plum's pit on a small dish, I couldn't help but smile, knowing that this unconventional love story would forever hold a special place in my heart.
Also, this is an excellent game and I strongly recommend it.

Honestly, I didn't think there would be much replayability in this game but I was wrong. I usually am not the person who enjoys playing the same level over and over again for achievements or better score but this game is different!
Very easy to understand, but tactical game, and you can make it yourself a lot more difficult with the "Mutators", which are like power ups for the enemy, which gives you more EXP.

Wonderful game, I enjoy it greatly and am excited for future updates! Would love to see more mechanics unique to levels based on location, more bosses, and of course all of the fun modifiers and challenges! Would love to see a level creator or place where people can upload their own levels, or even multiplayer options where you can defend together or one person controls the enemies and tries to overrun you. Many many fun and unique ideas here, and many more to be explored! I believe this game has a bright future!

Surprisingly fun and addictive tower defence, where you have to do all the building, unit management and combat on your own horse. All this in a beautiful audiovisual. Early access for now, but the game is almost ready and will only add levels and unlockable weapons and perks

First of all, this game is AMAZING! i did not expected this much fun at first, but after trying it myself i was left speechless. THE MOST IMPORTANT PART IS THAT ONLY 2 PEOPLE MADE THIS GAME! Tower defence system is amazing, army stuff is something i was looking for in many other td games. fact that you can control ur army to hold one side while others defend other part of ur little kingdom. I have one issue tho, please when i tell my army to hold one line do not make them reset and go back to the original place after the night. i would like if they stayed the whole time where i tell them to. sorry for my crappy English but this game is really good and i recommend it to everyone who likes td and strategy games. I am looking for new stuff in future and please do not abandon it.

I love this game and its creators. This game is a fresh start with its amazing ideas for game play. Its a good game to just sit down and play for a little bit after a long programming or workout session. My only complaint is the difficulty curve. The tutorial was easy enough but Nordfelds was pretty hard for me, considering that I just got out of the tutorial. I would love it if there was a difficulty selection. Another thing that would be really cool is an infinite rounds/sandbox mode.

A man on horse, both bold and true,
Guarding towers 'neath skies so blue.
His heart's ablaze, he stands so tall,
To prevent his throne's impending fall.
Through battles fought, his courage shines,
Defending towers, ancient signs.
His purpose clear, he answers the call,
A guardian strong against thronefall.

It's really fun and the music is great.
All achievement is a bit difficult but can easily be done in a few days.
The only issue I had with the game is that it feels like it is made to be played with a controller. Selecting a group of soldiers while running is painfully difficult on a keyboard. (or is it just my habit of using WASD and left shift+ctrl at the same time?)

Hello, I really love the game and I have spent the whole afternoon playing it. However, I think the last boss in the Winter Map has some bugs. The HP ran out but the red dots (its lives I think) stayed the same (it still showed 5 dots even tho the HP of the boss ran out 3 times already). Overall, the game is great and very enjoyable. Thank you.

A fantastic take on a medieval tower defence game. I quickly found myself invested in every turn and finding new ways to play each time. It has been a ton of fun to try out different perk and weapon combinations. Economy also feels really straight forward but with interesting nuance. Maybe most interesting of all is the chance to have a "hero" that can impact rounds and brings a whole new level to success or failure. Can't recommend the game enough and its still early access. Very excited for new content and more new things!

throne fall is a very simple to understand game with simple controls, it has a layer of complexity with the perks and upgrades, which makes it possible to find certain combinations of perks that completely changes the tempo of the game depending on choice of perks to suit particular play styles, even with less than 12 hours sunk into the game, i can see massive potential for an amazing game.
throne fall needs more content, i believe that a larger variety of enemies, buildings and maps would take this game from great to amazing, although throne fall needs more content this is to be expected with a early access game.
throne fall has a massive potential to be a top tier minimalist strategy game, cant wait to see how this game grows and expands.

This game is unbelievable fun!!! It is challenging but isn't frustrating or unfair. There are so many things to explore and try and it's really cool!
The only downside is the sounddesign. It's cluttered, doesn't have to much veriety and the panning is a little wired.

Fun, but short, definitely worth $6 bucks. There are only 4 levels but there are perks/cons which do had some minor replayability. Coin concept for spending is similar to two crowns, but the game is very much a tower/unit defense with you as a hero unit. I feel with more levels, survival mode, story arcs? map editor etc this game will become a real hit.
Pros:
Price
Fairly well executed tower/unit/hero defense game
Waves are different, keeps it interesting, adapting new concepts to fight off different types of enemies.
Cons:
Not a grand strategy game, not too much depth ( 4th last level has some research building but doesnt really get used )
4 levels so far

A game worth it's price.
+ Stylish graphic, everything fits into one style, there are no weird out of place objects, is it good or is it bad? Up to one's artistic taste.
+ Only found one bug where a unit keeps getting stuck in one specific place on top of desert map and that doesn't even break the game, everything else has been bugless, no errors, no game shutting down out of blue.
+ Optimization, no stutters, enough said if you consider that 70% of all games fail at this, even the AAA ones.
+ The game has potential, the first map showed me the game, the second map made me confortable, the third started to be a bit boring, the fourth introduced a boss mechanic and it was epic, music and all and the stress of impending doom.
+ Good keyboard/mouse/controller experience. Because of the low number of buttons used. This is one of those rare games that can be definitely ported to all platforms without detracting from the gameplay experience at all.
- Little content (except the perks, there is plenty of them). Would need to have at least 40 maps, not 4, to be a great game. With dozens upon dozens of different enemies and bosses.
- Game sometimes lacks tooltips. How much damage units do, exactly? How many hitpoints do they have? Do enemies all spawn at once, or do they spawn one by one?
- Hold to gather troops button is of questionable design. Why do i need to hold it and not just click it once and then have 4 buttons dictate the behaviour of a formation i set them to? Sometimes you need to do precision troop gathering (yes i am look at you, you single archer among 5 of knights) and holding a button is a bit annoying and certainly tests your patience.

This game manages to capture the same feeling I had when playing Stronghold Crusader for hours and hours back in the day, but within a tight, minimalist gameloop with 30min to 1hr sessions. Such an achievement!
The sound design is super satisfying, balancing is great and modifiers and unlockable content give you lots to come back to. Can't wait to play more of this and would 10/10 recommend! <3

A grate game, from the perspective of an RTS fan it has all the basics, it is a "tower defense" with economy and army control, on a small but concise scale, it is a simple game in the best possible sense, I think it is a hidden gem, especially for the price.
It's not long but the challenges add replayability, at the time of this review the devs are very active, so I hope they continue adding more to the game.
The graphic style is good and the music too
It can be played with control, the only thing it's missing is an "endless mode" to see how long you can last in your city
Solid recommendation for the price

Got more hours out of the game than dollars payed for it so it's an upvote from me, great value game and has a lot of potential.
few cons though:
-Commanding troops is just plain frustrating, they just have really awful behavior pattern and AI. You can place them somewhere then as soon as the wave starts they will (ranged) run straight at and in the path of the enemy wave getting mowed down. Part of the game difficulty seems to be figuring out how to deal with the crappy AI.
-Later challenges are very frustrating and need to be played very specific ways and "solved" when it comes to perks taken (you can really only pick from a handful of perks when you want to tackle higher challenges) and strategies used. I realize all games have this to a degree, but it's frustrating thinking "man I don't know what else I could have done here" Example on certain challenge, Went all defense, neglected economy entirely, and still got destroyed or pass by the skin of your teeth then have absolutely zero economy and die the next wave because I didn't pick the "correct" weapon or perks.
-I get this part is sort of the strategy of it all, but Would be cool to just pick where the buildings are. I doubt this will ever be a thing as I believe the dev has said they aren't even doing a map editor or anything. But some difficulty feels artificial just because some of the tower defense spots are not ideal. I guess maybe it would be too easy if I could just place the stuff myself.
Overall worth a buy currently if you can get it for like 5-7 dollars.

I did it! Today (07.09.2023) I beat the last quest and now i have 100%. After playing 19h. It is early access anyway.
Things I should mention about this game:
1. It was more difficult than i thought to beat the last challenge. (Difficulty 7,5/10 and i like this part)
2. The Grafik is minimalistic but that somehow fits the game even though it is nothing crazy. Still a little bit more details would be nice (Grafik 4/10 and design 5/10)
3. The Gameplay is a mix between tower defense and fighting for yourself, that part is one of the highlights. I do like a well made tower defense game, but Thronfall brings that mechanic to a level i never has before. Nice done! (Gameplay 9/10)
Overall a great game (it is still early access!), and i can see this in the future as a great strategy game.

Game is fun and that's the most important part, however there are lot of things that need improvement especially unit control. Selecting units is tedious and when in group practically impossible. Also units should "teleport" to desired location during a day so I don't have to wait for them to cross whole map. Readability of units is terrible even after 20 hours of playing. Zoom out or some kind of minimap is needed so I know what is happening on the other side. Please show wave number during the day because I often forget to look at beginning of the night and it's important so I can plan next few turns. Make in game encyclopedia that shows or tells more about units (ally and enemy) and buildings. Ofc there are more minor things but I am aware that game is in early access and many things that I wrote people already pointed out.
Visually game looks really nice and I like simplicity in choice. You can make game as simple or as hard as you want with mutators and you can approach defense in many different ways thanks to many different perks that will be balanced out in future I assume. I will be waiting for new stuff since I got all achievements :D

If the only POSSIBLE complaint for an early access game is "needs more content" then it's done something right. Incredibly satisfying tower defense that seems to have perfected the format. Pretty to look at too!
My only hope/suggestion would be to add a bestiary or enemy journal. Some allied unit types deal more or less damage to specific classes of enemies, yet besides intuition there isn't any way to figure out whether the segmented crawly thing scuttling your way is a weird snake best dealt with using hunters or a war machine that'll be picked off by your ballistae. There's two enemies that fit this description and I think the answer is different for both of them lol.
Oh also left control is a really awkward button for the rally command. I know there's like two buttons used in the entire game but I would like to rebind that!
Play this, it's fun and it's only gonna age like fine wine as more content gets added

This game is pretty fun and I really enjoy it! If your on the verge and haven't tried the demo I suggest you do that, and at the end of the demo you'll be wanting more. I just hope they add a lot more content, I especially hope they add a multiplayer feature with either :
- You both work together with the same gold pool against stronger enemies.
- You both get troops and make your troops fight against each other and attack the others castle
Or both.
Also it would be cool if you added a feature were you place things in whatever spot you want.

Extremely nice tower defence game. Not like it has much innovation, all the things here are well-known in the genre, but the implementation is actually almost flawless: it plays really well, it's nicely balanced, and it's already have enough content in early access to keep you occupied for a dozen of hours or so (and more will be coming).

It is enjoyable, but the price to fun ratio is what makes it great in my opinion.
A few levels, quite a few perks to mix and match, and some more difficult challenges are the things that are available right now.
The gameplay feels very nice, it has a bit of easy to learn hard to master vibe, and the short levels fit well with the style of the game.

Great little game, totally worth the few bucks you pay for it. I've only paid 3 hours so far, but I imagine I'll play quite a bit more as the game updates more in the future. The game is the definition of easy to learn, but hard to master.

I love tower defense games, and I do recommend this one at its current price of ~$7.
That said, there's a lot to go over. I want to preface this review by saying that the good absolutely outweighs the bad, in my opinion, so even though the list of "bad" items is a bit longer, don't let that scare you off.
The Good:
The movement is a lot of fun. You ride around as a king on a horse, and your mobility is always just a little better than your enemies' mobility. Riding in and out of combat situations, managing your health, choosing your specials, and commanding your units is just a blast.
Enemy unit variety is great, and your Barracks units' strengths is both important and easily felt. Your Barracks units can be moved to any spot on the map, which makes strategizing feel more engaging.
The art and music are whimsical and enjoyable. The attention is always right on the action, and there's great visual clarity, even though all combat takes place at night.
This game has so much potential! I'm really looking forward to seeing where the devs take it from here.
The Bad:
As mentioned by the developers, this game is SHORT. There are only four defense maps, each with different challenges to help make the game feel longer than it is.
Difficulty scaling is a nightmare. Each of the four zones feels like it escalates wildly from easy, to medium, to hard, to DEATHMARCH. I prefer my games to have a set difficulty throughout, with each level becoming more challenging at a pace I can actually keep up with. I have the power, and if I suck, I suck, and I just need to practice and get better.
But, in ThroneFall, by the third zone I had to level up through repeated (repeated, repeated) failure and unlock additional perks before I could succeed at anything. It never felt like I was actually getting any better, or achieving anything, until I had enough experience points to unlock another perk, at which point it became possible to proceed.
Because of this, although the game claims it can be played any way you want, you wind up having to choose a single playstyle to win each map, and you can't be sure which one will work until you get there. It's different every time. So if you would have preferred to focus on walls or towers or your king or economy, you just have to do what the map wants you to do instead.
To add to that, you can only build certain building in certain locations. You wanted to put a tower there? Well, you can't, that spot only allows you to build a house. Oh, a Barracks building could be great here? Nope. Can only build a mill. Want to lay down a wall in the perfect spot? Well, you can't, there are four places to build a wall, pick one.
Your Barracks units' AI is pretty terrible. Melee units will see enemies half across the map and run away from the place they're meant to be guarding unless you A) babysit them, which prevents you from leaving that spot, or B) lock them into position, where they will not move, nor or attack anything that isn't adjacent to them (thus allowing enemy units to sneak by). They will NOT run back to defend anything being attacked. The do not care if your castle is under siege. Ranged units will leave cover to approach enemies and deliberately put themselves within melee range. It's a mess.
There are a couple of little bugs here and there that aren't really worth mentioning. It's Early Access, I knew the risks.

It's Kingdom in 3D! Would love some exploration element like the aforementioned (even though in that game you could only travel in one of two directions). It would be epic to take your troops out on a quick trip to a nearby cave or bandit camp or what have you. But as is, this game is excellent.

This game is a bargain for the early access price even with the current amount of content. I'm about eight hours in and still haven't completed all the challenges or unlocked all perks, so don't worry about $/hr here.
It's basically a 3D version of the Kingdom series but with way more building, weapon, and perk customization. The nodes on the ground decide what type of building can be built, but you can choose between specializations for troops, towers, and farms.
The difficulty of the game can range between very easy to scraping-by-the-skin-of-your-teeth hard. It all depends on how much of a challenge you set yourself with the modifiers, or how much you grief yourself in my case (building the wrong building, etc).
As for the future, I'm hoping for some more maps, some unique buildings to go along with them, and maybe mount options. I'm not expecting "Rockstar-level nonsense for scope" from this small of a dev team :)
TL;DR: It's a fun little game worth the small price-tag. I've bought worse AAA games tbh.

All the fun of Kingdom Two Crowns but with a much needed 2nd dimension. I love the coin system and that you don't have to rebuild your stuff when it gets destroyed. Its a proper tower defense game, and really well balanced in its early state.

Is this a good game? yes.
Is this game worth 10.25aud? debatable but no.
ATM it takes around 8 hrs to hit max level and beat all 4 levels (1 is tutorial) and even less if you don't fail multiple times like I did. You can replay each map with new modifiers to make the game easier or harder and more fun.
I'd love to see:
-The 'pre-placed building locations' removed and replaced with some sort of grid to allow freedom of strategy.
-a randomly generated map mode.
-ability to change selections on buildings (before night) in case of miss click.
-restart.
-larger variety of units and building upgrades.
-better explanation of units and their upgrades (both ally and enemy) (before and after, speed, damage, range, health ect)
-more and larger maps.
-more weapons.
-balance positive modifiers.
in conclusion: It is a promising game that's fun, short, optimised, and with a little replay-ability but it will need more added to it before it becomes worth $10.25.

Very simple to understand the game mechanics, but also has a lot of room for strategic decision, especially with the difficulty modifiers. Also a lot of paths to victory especially after you unlock all of the perks. It reminds me of Kingdom series a lot and I love it!

This minimalist game is absolutely fun. The core mechanic's are minimalist and quick to learn, but definitely a challenge to master. The controls are minimalist, allowing you to focus on developing your strategies. The art style is minimalist, but doesn't come off as 'retro'. The soundtrack is minimalist but extremely catchy.
Alright, alright... I don't think I can keep this shtick up any longer. All in all, do not let the minimalist style of this game fool you, even with only 4 levels, the perk combos and mutators force you to rethink your strategies even on already played levels and offer you the ability to scale the difficulty on your own terms. With the developers promising more to come, I can't wait to see where this goes.

I played this for about 4 hours at the point of this review. I have finished all the four stages available at this point. The developler is promising more stages/units at this point.
As of right now there is only some sort of story mode. You have four stages, four different biomes and progessivley evolving enemy types and the directions those types are come from.
The defense tower pieces are fixed for each map right now (each having an individual spot on the map).
Think of it like a tower defense game with limitations. Well, at least for now, I hope.
The enemy types are standard and fit into categorys that match your defenses. As of now you only have a limited number of rounds to 'finish' a stage. If you fail, you fail the whole stage. There is no going back to the previous attempt in the current save.
You gain roquelike levels for your individual attempts, like more power to your towers, more hp, more armor, less armor but more dmg,....you get the idea. So you can choose your bonuses for each round. You can also choose from some mutators to challenge yourself. Enemies get more hp/speed/dmg and vise versa.
This will give you more XP to unlock more and more mutators, skills and weapons for your next stage.
Do I recommend?
Well, If they keep going into the direction of making the game more open ended -> then yeah.
If it keeps being level based, where you just finish a stage and must unlock mutators/skills and perks to get a better score for a certain stage -> then no.
Overall, the idea is nice, artwork is meh and the gameplay is solid for its purpose.

Spent 6.29 on it while it was on sale but honestly you could sell this game for 10-15$ when its out of early access. really fun, challenging, and strategizing gameplay. intuitive and easy to get into while difficult enough to keep you engaged. really brings something new and cool to the tower defense genre and the art style and design looks clean and really well done. for anyone who enjoys tower defense and wants to try something new, id absolutely recommend picking this up.

Charming game. Unfortunately for me it runs poorly when to many enemies are on screen. I had to refund for this reason.
Id say if you can run the game with no issues it's worth the money.
I could not even tho I have a decent rig. To much stuttering on late stages for me to enjoy.

A lot of people are saying that this game is like Kingdom Two Crowns. But it's just not true. K2C gave you 2 sides to defend from enemy waves that gradually ramped up in difficulty, giving you adequate time to learn and adjust your strategy and expand. K2C never gave you a new rock/paper/scissors enemy type that you couldn't kill with whatever defenses killed the last wave. When things got really rough with blood moons or retaliations, you might lose your crown, but you picked up the pieces with repairs and recruitment and the daily waves reset their difficulty curve to give you a realistic chance of making more progress.
This game is nothing like that. It forces you to fail over and over, resetting your building progress completely each time, until you memorize the locations and types of rock/paper/scissors waves and therefore build up adequate defense thanks to your knowledge of future waves.
I love the game's aesthetic and simplicity of controls, and I do love a good tower defense game. I really just don't like being put in impossible situations that force me to memorize sequences of future outcomes, and waste my time repeating the same content over and over just to learn what I need to memorize. That's not really the type of problem-solving I look for in games. That's why I don't recommend Thronefall.
Recommendations that I feel would make it more fun:
- Remove predetermined building nodes. Let us build anywhere for unique & strategic problem-solving for defense.
- Give us more options for friendly AI behavior. Maybe I want my unit to chase a mob, but only after the mob comes within a specific range, not necessarily from all the way across the map.
- Give the ruler a rally action that would call all units over to help, even if they would otherwise stick to their posts.
- Make the enemy wave symbols meaningful or at least give some kind of tooltip to explain them! A couple are fairly obvious, but so many of the enemy symbols require you to blindly observe, then inevitably fail, and finally memorize so you can repeat the level and actually respond effectively (a la rock/paper/scissors).
- Evolve the enemy waves in a more linear way, so the challenge still ramps up as time goes on, but you're not forced to memorize arbitrary wave patterns in order to counter them with specific defenses at specific times.
OR
- If you're really stuck on predetermined waves, just show us the waves in advance, including their ingress points since that's essential to knowing where to place defenses.
- Every level should be winnable with no perks chosen. Maybe this is already true-- I didn't play enough to know. But please do not force us, through trial and error, to choose specific perks that are necessary to win a map.

Really fun little game. NIce mix of planning for each wave and then being active during the attack running to whichever place needs reinforcing etc. Various different perks unlocked when you level up to add another level of interest.
Only things to improve in my opinion would be a way of selecting only one type of unit (e.g. if your longbows get mixed up with your spearmen but you want to put the longbows somewhere specific it's hard to disentangle them), and maybe make the unit designs a little more distinctive, as sometimes it's a bit difficult to tell them apart (eg longbows vs knights).
I've played through all the levels once now and it took a few hours, but think there's plenty of scope to replay the levels. Current price of £5 is very attractive in my opinion.
Look forward to seeing what the creators add to the game in future!
Edit: Have now completed all the challenges for each level which was good fun, going back trying to optimise your strategy with the new perks you've unlocked etc in order to beat the harder enemies. Took 18.7 hours of play according to steam. Overall an enjoyable little game, and would still recommend it!

Loved this game. It took me about 11 hours to 100% the games 4 maps (3 non tutorial). Where this game really shines is its replay ability. There are so many different perks that you can have multiple unique experiences on every map. The disadvantages also make the game challenging but only has hard as you want it to be.

Great fun little game. Have completed all the levels now and am working on geting all the crowns.
I know the game is in early access so much can change but it is areally solid game right now.
There are however some QoL things I would love to see being added.
First of it would be really nice to have keybinds for your armies, when you have them all across the map is is kinda annoying having to go around and pick them up. My suggestion is that when a barack is built it gets assigned to 1-5 on the keyboard and a small icon with the unit type aswell as the number appears on the side of the screen. This would be very helpful.
Secondly I would like to have some way to view all the skills and perks etc even though i dont have unlocked them yet so you have an idea of when you unlock them and at what level.
Anyways highly recomend the game and am excited to see where it goes!

Cute short tower defense game.
Pros
* Art style
* units are cuties
* Gameplay is simple build a building, decide on type of unit or type of building, upgrade a building, place units or move your king to fight in an area.
Cons
* Sometimes the simpler controls hurt the experience. Units will go to where you place them even if enemies are not coming from that direction anymore
* Game is currently short. Only a few hours in length but it is in early access with more content to come.
* Game is a bit unbalanced. Some units like the fast alien creatures will kill you in 3 hits.

I enjoy the game quite a bit, although the game is simple and easy to understand. It can still be challeging at times I really enjoy this aspect of the game. And with the *Mutators* they offer. It only gets harder.
( I hope they will add and endless mode, would be fun to see which of your friends can reach the highest wave).
10/10 would recommend. Its only the third day after release and the future looks bright for the game I look forward to it

short but with some variety
3-12h game. currently only 1 tutorial + 3 maps?
its okey, very fun in some of the start, later and harder difficulty is a bit chaotic to manage than the game allows.
Could handle information about some buildings a bit better and when or about one's lost match.
Would recommend for the early content, so maybe 3-4 hours and if they add more in future?

Pretty cool game that lives up to exactly what it tries to be. The game is complex enough to enjoy, yet simple enough to pick up quickly. I have only a few hours in the game but that is all you need to appreciate this. The price is well worth it. I look forward to what the devs have in store, for sure will look back to this game as it gets updates!

Disclaimer: I played the demo of this for 2 hours, this time isn't added to the game, but in the progress was.
EDIT: So, I paid around 6€ for this and for now played it for 12h. 1€/2h is a very good ratio IMO.
For now, the game is short (only 3 levels), but it's fun and if you don't mind replaying levels with different modifiers, you should be fine. But for the low price, IMO it's absolutely worth it, even if I would stop playing it for now, no regrets.
Gameplay is fun and quite different from the usual stuff, you keep unlocking new stuff so it doesn't get boring, levels are very distinctive, graphics and music are nice.
The "endgame" content, i.e. replaying levels with difficulty modifiers is quite challenging, but easier with more perks you unlock later.
Also important: Using a controller works flawless, so you can play it chilled and layed back

Nice idea, nice execution, but it needs tons of QoL to be enjoyable more than 2 hours.
Hero is slow, several enemies are faster than you, seems unbalanced.
You cant see the whole map and often you get attacking waves from opposite sides, and you dont have a clue of whats going on except if you move your hero (slow) which also makes you lose its attack (if you are melee).
Seems like there are a lot of upgrades, but progress is painfully slow and you dont even know what will be next. I dont know if I grind for exp for 2 more battles I'll get a great upgrade that'll help me with a stage Im struggling.
Managing units is a pain.

There's a lot to do given how compact the game still is. Leveling up makes it possible to complete the harder challenges for each level. Good times.

Fun game, but feels very mobile-y. After about 12 hours I'm done with the game.
I can't recommend this in its EA state for $7, if it were on sale for half that it would feel worth it. I'd sit on it until it gets a few more updates at least, another level or two. Right now I think it's just really short on content.

For the price it´s alright. The game itself is really nice and enjoyable, but to be honest it severely lacks content. It looks like levels would be super simple to create, yet there are only 4. I know it´s early access, but this feels just lazy to me. If they added ~30 more levels I would say it´s a decent game, until then I can´t look at this as more than a very small demo of a potentially great game tho

Thronefall is a minimalistic strategy game about defending your castle center and finding the perfect balance between economy and defence for your kingdom while you fight waves of incoming enemies. The game is currently in early access so a couple of things will be added later on, such of more levels, perks, quests and other features.
Speaking of which, Thronefall currently has 3 main maps + a tutorial map which each map having quests as extra challenges. While you play the game you gain xp to level up. When you level up you unlock perks, mutators (more extra challenges), and some other stuff. Even if you unlocked and completed everything you can still try to beat your high score on ever map! You will have around 5 to 10 hours of gameplay if you want to unlock everything, and of course infinite hours if you are trying to beat high scores ;)
The game isn’t (or at least a the time of writing this) too easy. There are A LOT of possible strategies you can try out so you’ll be always able to find new ways of playing. You will need to sometimes go out of your comfort zone to try other strategies.
Thronefall currently is a perfect experience for the price you pay. It is still in early access so a lot will change and you may run into some bugs or other issues… but if you like city builders, tower defence, or other similar strategic games Thronefall will also be perfect for you!

This is more of a puzzle/building game rather than a city builder/tower defense game just like polibridge or some game like that, you don't even have free will over what you build since you can only construct in very specific areas (I know the trailer specify that but I was expecting more customization on your town), moreover, to unlock achievements you need to progress in a very specific way and build very specific buildings in each wave, so this is more of a memory game rather than a strategy game.

The concept is nice, however I do not see really replayability value for the maps. The maps are too much straight forward, leaving not a lot of actual choice of what to build. I found it basically not very engaging.

Early Access Review
I'd like to preface this review with this: The reason I have chosen to make this a negative review is mainly due to the fact this game is in early access with the possibility of change. If this was a finished product I would have enjoyed it enough that I would not leave a negative review. Hopefully this review reaches the developers and if this feedback is in line with their vision helps them in their development. If not hopefully they can gleam some constructive criticism.
Currently the game feels more puzzle than strategy for my liking. This was especially evident when trying to complete the challenges. It felt that there were many wrong ways to play and only a few correct paths to success. This largely falls on the perk and mutator system I believe. The perks seem more flawed in this regard. Some of them often don't seem like perks and fall somewhere between perk and mutator. X does more damage, but Y does less. The buff is usually higher to try and offset the loss but when you have completely positive perks its hard to justify trading one of those for something more flawed. These could be moved to their own category called something like "Variables" given a limit cap on how many could be in use like perks. They could balanced to be a more give and take feel.
Some quality of life improvements and gameplay suggestions:
Being able to undo a purchase
(Its annoying to restart a run because of a mistake)
Minimap
(To let me know where my troops are and where the remaining enemies are. Its absences is a lot more evident on larger maps)
A counter showing how many enemies have yet to spawn
(It would be nice to know that I can stop defending this side and pull troops to other defenses)
Unit control during set up
(I think the current controls work for during the night gives it more frantic feel but they are tedious during the day. I would often not even want to move units since it takes so long and there is no easy way to separate ranged and melee units once they are grouped)
A retry button for the night
(Give it a negative 10% modifier or something so it can't be used to cheese high scores. Its really annoying to be trying a new strategy for a level and have to replay 11 nights because you forgot about a wave of giants or weren't paying attention to your health and died.)
Better unit targeting
(It kinda sucks watching three ballista shoot the same enemy when there are multiple siege units they could be firing at or watching a super tower with the fast attack speed waste 75% of its shots shooting into an enemy that is already dead the arrows haven't reached them yet. Fixing this could throw the game balance way off because it would make the defending units much stronger since so much damage would not be wasted as it is now. Its just frustrating picking a build that super charges a tower or spending money on ballista towers just to watch that potential damage be wasted.)
If you have read this far thank you for letting me waste your time in my ramblings. Take my comments and suggestions with a grain of salt. This is not my game or project, but hopefully our visions align.

I really wanted to like this game since I play tower defense, RTS, and strategy games all the time. Unfortunately it seems a bit too difficult.
Winning or losing seems very predetermined by what you choose to invest your coins in (not just in the current round, but cumulatively) despite how effective you are with your own attacks. This might sound obvious or expected, but the issue is upon losing there's no clear, identifiable way to know what you did "wrong" or how to improve. So you just have to play again, make some different decisions, and see if you lose. Then repeat until you're able win.
This makes it feel a lot less like a strategic game and more like a guessing game. I actually would prefer to lose immediately if I do something that will 100% guarantee me losing in the final round. Generally speaking, I don't mind a game that doesn't have numbers (e.g. attack/speed/whatever for each unit). But if there were numbers, I could at least make better relative assessments between units which might help me from investing in the "wrong" unit. That being said, not knowing what enemies will be in future rounds also means I don't know whether I'm supposed to build a balanced arsenal or one specialized to defend against a particular type of enemy in order to win.
I genuinely hope some of these topics are addressed, since I love the art style and easy to understand mechanics. If replaying the same level over and over again is truly the intention, perhaps it would be more enjoyable with roguelike elements.

Finally, I can define a GAME on STEAM "Fun" again.
EARLY notes :
- Level 3+ need to adjust.
- I found the customization at level start not appealing, although I know it help us with choices, but it's not necessary. Most passive should be earned and stack up. if you want different trails, make those stats/passive into another characters.
That should be more appealing to player.

Pros - Its a great little game with nice graphics, excellent soundtrack and simple to understand UI. It was simple to learn and fun to play.
Cons - The biggest drawback of this game is that you must place the buildings in their designated locations. Its essentially a "paint by numbers". The goal is to survive long enough to collect enough coins to fill in the blanks. Once you do that there is nothing left.
Not a recommend for me even at this price, its too simplistic and limiting overall, great vision though.

I'd like to recommend it, but it's just too hard. I'm not good at these sorts of games, so I'm not expecting to clear every single crown on a level, but having to redo the third level five times before I could beat it without any mutators just isn't fun for me. It's a cute game and all, but the base difficulty is way harder than I'd like it to be.

It's good but it's not for me. In case you're looking for a casual game this is good enough.
But if you're looking for a serious game then this game is a no go.
The buildings are predetermined, i can't build where i want it, and what you build is also predetermined, so it's just like a simple game, it's also quite expensive for a simple game. Most of the things are good but this is just a casual game which I didn't expect

Deceptively tricky and incredibly fun. If you're looking for a great game to chill out to, you've found it.
I bought this late at night so haven't had time to sink multiple hours into it (yet). This is an incredible game, nice and simple. The kind of game you can just jump into for an hour and jump out, or keep grinding away at for ages. If you're like me and enjoy listening to podcasts while you game, this is absolutely ideal for that.
It is early access, so there are some QOL issues that still need to be addressed, and it does seem to be slightly light on "real" content for now (outside of replaying levels to get a higher score or adding modifiers). With how this game is blowing up though, I expect that will all come with time.
Insanely enjoyable, great price, absolutely worth picking up. Strong recommend.

Very Fun and no headache but its missing one very crucial feature.
No save points, did not find out until I was almost 2 hours in.
Crashing or leaving the game during a level means you have to restart the level from beginning and not the wave.
"Early Access" they say.

First of all, the devs are pretty cool - They gave me a key for giving and responding to feedback on their Discord. Not many other devs would do the same.
Anyway, for the actual game, it's nice. I wouldn't say the full $7 is worth it currently, but it's still in early access so more content will be released.
Replayability is great - There are tons of different strategies and builds you can use. I managed to get 10 hours on the demo, completing challenges and experimenting with different setups. As you progress, you unlock new weapons, buildings, perks, and mutators, which allow for different playstyles. Then there's the challenges. As if the main game wasn't difficult enough, challenges lock you into certain perks, weapons, and mutators. This should add a few hours to your playtime.
Then, if the in-game challenges don't satisfy you, you can just challenge yourself to use certain mutators. Mutators add challenge to the game, and the more you use, the more difficult the game gets. In the demo, using (at the time) all 3 was a pretty big challenge.
Lastly, if all of that doesn't satisfy you, there's highscore hunting. Pretty simple: Equip 2 or more mutators and make sure none of your buildings get destroyed and you beat each night fairly quickly, all while generating as much gold as you can.
The levels are designed pretty well. Nordfels is a great introduction level while durststein builds on the concepts. After that you have frostsee, the most difficult level, where you'll probably have a financial crisis on your first run. All pretty well designed levels.
The weapons aren't designed as well. There's the bow, the starting weapon and easily the worst. Then there's the spear, the best weapon in most situations. Finally we have the longsword, which while mostly worse than the spear, it can see use in frostsee with the amount of swarm enemies that level has.
On the other hand, there are too many perks to review them all here.
In conclusion, go ahead and buy the game on sale. It's pretty good, but also quite difficult.

Fun and addicting, though I cannot recommend since the game play is too fragile. Many playstyles and options are objectively bad and you are frequently punished for doing anything other than what the level demands. Waves go from 8 archers and 8 knights to 24 fast moving siege engine worms that rapidly spawn and destroy anything save walls within 2 seconds and putting you in a 10 second timeout as you watch as everything is destroyed and you just wasted the last few minutes.
Like Potionomics, it's a grind of a game that promises having many options and ways to play, but in actuality the only way is the right way. Any deviation from this path or experimentation is punished swiftly and severely and you must start the entire level over.
If you enjoy doing the same thing over and over and changing one thing at a time to find the intended way to beat a level and are not discouraged by frequent failures and binary failure points I would recommend; if you are a thinking that the simple graphics and mechanics equal a more casual strategy game that may be game easier or more approachable think again

Use me as a PLEASE add multiplayer button (review below)
Very cool and promising game!! I loved kingdoms 2 crowns when I played it earlier this year, but I kept thinking god I wish there was a 3D version of this, and here we are!! In many ways Thronefall is already so much better than it's spiritual predecessor in the ways that you are way more involved in the defense of ur base, you can actually command troops, and that there's a ton of cool upgrades you can unlock. One thing I'm REALLY missing is a co-op or competitive mode, would love to play this with friends! Apart from that, the only thing I really want to see added (besides just more levels, buildings, and troop/enemy types) is just some quality of life improvements to commanding units, for example stuff like troop grouping, click and drag troop movement, some basic commands besides "hold this position". Thronefall is so simple and intuitive to play in its current state that over complicating things could cause the game to lose some of it's approachability and charm, so it should be done carefully, we don't need any more ridiculously complicated strategy games! All in all, I cannot wait to see updates come out for this game but PLEASEEEE give us multiplayer relatively soon!

Recently, I've been looking for games that I could just chill and relax to instead of the fast-paced action platformers I'm always akin to. To my surprise, one of the developers who created my favorite indie-game of all time, Will You Snail?, has created just the thing for me. Thronefall is relaxing and requires some strategic thinking. And I do love me some strategy. With its leveling system and perks makes the game addictive and has a lot of replayability. Kudos to Jonas and Paul, I'm looking forward to the future of Thronefall!

A minimalist Medieval themed Tower Defense game that is this original in 2023 is pretty damn impressive. The art style gives it a board game feel. Very much worth the money.

Not a game as much as it is a puzzle. You have no choices as to what goes places or where those places are. This takes the fixed placement tower defense genre and makes it worse by giving you no choices as to what goes in each place. If a tower goes there, a tower always goes there and never a house, and vice versa.
If you enjoy puzzle games where the devs have already decided how to beat things and you're trying to figure out the exact way the pieces fit together, this will be a fun game. If you want an actual tower defense strategy game, you're going to be severely disappointed.

Good style, bad gameplay. You won't have much choice in this game. "Mutators" are a silly attempt to compensate for this issue, but they're just boring.

Basically Kingdoms just simpler.
This is neither a yes or a no.
The pro of its simplicity is the short timeframe to get into the core gameplay, as there isnt any early game where you need to slowly build up until something happens.
Its right into the action.
The con of its simplicity, is that it lacks stuff to do, is lacking depth, plays pretty casual and doesnt come with enough options in terms of gameplay, thus becomes boring/samey really fast, as the only options you have, are the perks.
Its good if you like a more casual Kingdoms Experience, but if you really want depth, you will likely go back to the clearly better game.
Thronefall can however add depth later on, if maps get bigger with additional building options and other interactions (mercenary camps?).
So this is just a temporary verdict.
My hope would be to receive far more complex maps to play on, especially with endless mode, as the current maps on endless would become incredibly boring, as you run out of upgrades or stuff to build before the final wave hits.
Playing endlessly on a map without anything to do, would be pointless.
Its a NO if you want another Kingdoms Experience, because its just too less in terms of complexity and depth and you might end up wishing you just played Kingdoms.
Its a YES if you want a more casual "into the action" Kingdoms Variant because you found Kingdoms to play too slow paced to your liking.

Not a bad game for $7 US for the first couple levels. For some reason, though, I literally cannot beat the final wave on the 3rd level. Nothing is too difficult up until this point, and then it literally gets unbeatable. Kinda made the rest of the game pointless for me. Maybe I'm just dumb, but the difficulty of that final wave just ramping up so much seems to come out of nowhere.

Cannot recommend the game at this point.
- Gameplay at night is terrible, imho
- Balance leans heavily towards "challenging", i.e. not focused on fun.
- There are no permanent upgrades, i.e you will always feel inferior to the enemy
- Lack of content is unmotivating
For me this is not fun. I'll check back in a few months in the hopes that the gameplay and balancing improves.

I really enjoyed this game, but it simply TOO SHORT. There are only 5 total levels, and one of those is a tutorial. I'll grant them that those levels are quite difficult and will probably take a few tries, (especially the last one) but there's just not enough content here. It's frustratingly short! I will change my review if more content is added in the future.
*edit*
Since the most recent update I'm happy to see the game is getting new levels, there is a fun game here, as long as they keep putting in effort to expand it.
