MPI Kinect&Vision Programmers wanted
The Max Planck Society has established a new MPI for Intelligent
Systems to understand the organizing principles of autonomous systems
by combining theory, computation, material science and biology. The
Perceiving Systems Department in Tübingen seeks for the earliest
possible date
Vision, Graphics and Kinect Programmers
We are looking for several highly talented programmers with strong
technical knowledge of computer vision and graphics to support basic
research projects related to human body shape. You will work in an
international team of researchers on cutting edge methods for modeling,
estimating, and visualizing human body shape. We particularly seek
vision programmers interested in pushing the boundaries of range
sensing devices such as the Kinect to estimate body shape and
pose. Strong mathematical skills are important. We also seek vision
programmers in all areas including segmentation, optimization,
statistical image modeling, motion estimation, etc. In addition to
vision research programmers, we seek experienced graphics programmers
who are excited about developing new visualizations of the human body
that will be used widely on the Internet. Experience with 3D mesh
modeling, rigging, blend skinning, hair models, clothing simulation,
and animation from motion capture are all valuable. Finally, we seek
programmers with experience in developing novel vision and graphics
applications for mobile devices and the web; experience with
OpenGL/WebGL is desirable.
Some examples of things we have done include:

We seek highly motivated people interested in working in a challenging
research environment who also want to have an impact on the world by
having their code in wide use. Opportunities for technology transfer
are possible.
Previous work experience in a research or startup environment is
preferable. The candidate should be highly flexible, diligent,
enthusiastic and reliable. The common language of the department is
English; strong written and spoken English is critical.
Positions are available at all levels (Bachelor’s, Master’s, and
PhD). Salaries will be based on previous experience according to TVöD
guidelines. This is a full-time position. An initial contract will be
offered for 2 years. The Max Planck Society is committed to employing
more handicapped individuals and especially encourages them to apply.
The Max Planck Society seeks to increase the number of women in areas
where they are underrepresented and therefore explicitly encourages
women to apply.
Candidates should send their PDF application in English via e-mail to
Ms. Ballmann at personal@vw.mpi-stuttgart.mpg.de. More information
about our institute can be found on http://www.is.mpg.de or you can
contact Melanie Feldhofer (melanie.feldhofer@is.mpg.de).
Multiple positions are available and will be open until filled or no
longer needed. Preference will be given to applications received by
September 30, 2011.
