I've always considered myself more in tune with my emotions than the people I put myself around.
I used to contribute it to being raised in a family with three sisters but now I've come to realize it's because I was taught to care for others.
I consider it a choice, I choose to let myself be vulnerable and feel things because you won't understand what is hurting someone else if you close yourself off.
There never seems to be enough people looking out for the person walking alone and I try to recognize that person because I know how much it sucks to be them.
I think empathy may help people build better software because they're used to looking for ways to help, ways to make people's lives better or easier.
Empathy seems important because its going to be way tougher to move forward on anything if you can't put yourself in the other person's shoes and see what they're dealing with.
I've never had trouble being empathetic in a work setting, having worked in service industry and also being a teacher now.
I know what some of my students are going through. It's high school. It isn;t fun for everyone, I know. But I tried to help them see how much better life is when you're on your own.
It can be tough connecting and getting people to open up to you. I wish I was better at that. But I've been learning. I've been getting better at it. It just take practice.
